Anyone else crossed the line into true fetishism?

I'm curious how many of us are close too, or are 'true' klismaphiliacs. By true, I am referring to the DSM IV definition:

DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) - a paraphilic disorder must meet two essential criteria. The essential features of a Paraphilia are recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies sexual urges or behaviors generally involving

(1) Non human objects

(2) The suffering or humiliation of oneself or one’ partner, or

(3) Children or other non consenting persons that occur over a period of at least 6 months (Criterion A). The diagnosis i made if the behavior, sexual urges, or fantasies cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning (Criterion B).

I've always thought of it as enemas, rt's etc being nearly the sole source of arousal. I do still get excited at the sight of a pretty lady, even some pretty men. However it all pales in comparison to my 'interests'.

When masturbating, my fantasies are always such based and seldom do I vary them from the base theme. Put it this way, in equi's world, ya gotta know, sooner or later, someone's gonna get an enema, r/t, exam, suppository, and a couple other interests that are beyond the scope of this board (the nick).

I have had ruined marriages/relationships, lack of intimacy, but i'm not complaining. It's too late to turn back now (ok, since i was 5) and I accept me for who I am.

I checked out a list of paraphilias and I like a lot of things on that list. But I have no wish to involve minors or non-consenting adults in my play in any way, nor do I want to cause any genuine "suffering and humiliation." I think people who come to sites like this one are specifically looking for consenting partners. I'm not sure what that makes us all but whatever it is I like it! :-D

Does eroticism involving enemas, rectal temperatures or exams, etc., necessarily involve "the suffering or humiliation of oneself or one's partner"? Are "children or other nonconsenting persons" necessarily involved? Does "the behavior, sexual urges, or fantasies cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupatinal, or other important areas of functioning"? Are both these circumstances true of you, or whomever may be in question?

Each person has to answer these questions for him- or herself, and maybe some will answer them "yes." However, it is certainly possible to enjoy enemas and other rectal stimulation just for the erotic sensations, without experiencing "suffering or humiliation." "Children or other nonconsenting persons" are probably not involved in the activities of most people on this board. Maybe some experience "clinically significant distress or impairment" but most fall within the normal range of "social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning."

Remember that psychiatrists see people who have either come to them voluntarily because they feel something is wrong with themselves, or because they are so dysfunctional in their lives that family members, friends, or even law enforcement personnel have brought them. It is from the population that psychiatrists see that the DSM's descriptions of psychiatric disorders come.

If you don't feel distressed enough about your life to see a psychiatrist, and your family, friends, co-workers, or the police don't think you're crazy enough to have to see one, the likelihood is that you don't have a psychiatric disorder.

Very astute and well put summary ekim. In doing research into the paraphillias (as I have for years) I've found that most in the mental health 'community' have no idea nor experience with fetishes. Even the 'mighty' DSM classifies them only as "other".

Although psychology isn't my field, I am experienced in research. It would seem to me that a researcher could glean all the information needed for a masters thesis or perhaps even a doctoral dissertation from sites like these. I know I am perfectly willing to discuss my interests as I'm sure many are here. Although I'm quite transparent online, (equitube has been my sole nick for over a decade)thus far I've never been approached by anyone other than other enthusiasts (whom I truly enjoy sharing with).

My only recent concern lately is that I have little interest in sex outside the arena of my kinks. I was a bit tired when originally posting and didn't quite get my point across, but this thread has turned out even better.

I haven't had any interest in sex without kinks in years. I am a functioning, tax paying member of society and I don't feel any distress myself or cause any distress to others. I don't think I need counseling but I do get that my interests limit my dating prospects. Though honestly I don't need to find a bunch of guys. Just one would suit me fine.

Fetish?? Sexual foreplay takes many forms and need not lead to actual sex. Making yourself feel good is a fetish? How sad. Even the Puritan women insisted on having their partner make them "feel good." How? Who knows, but we can all guess. Picking lice out of your loved one's hair was considered foreplay in many societies. Was that a fetish? Was it a good health practice as is a regular enema, even if not foreplay and related to a sexual episode? Psychologists need to loosen up and get with the human program. We are sexual creatures and that can take many forms of behavior. As others have said, bottoms up! Enjoy your enema any way and for any reason you please!

Having somewhat first hand experience on this topic, I too have done my research and I have talked to a psych doctor or two concerning this matter. Now before I go on, I must say I didn't make an appointment with them, these docs were just people I have met along my journey here.

I agree with Susie on her outlook on shrinks, most of them are indeed in serious need of psych help, however, there are more and more shrinks out there who deal with just this issue. These shrinks are surprisingly versed in kink and all tha entails.

One with whom I spoke with for over an hour and a half alone on this topic put it to me in a more simple way, one in which might clear a lot of this up for a lot of people. After explaining to me the definition I wasn't sure quite how to answer him. I had trouble grasping the concept and definition without being able to see it in black and white. So he ask the following questions to me..

1) Can you have regular sex? Meaning can you have pleasurable sex with your partner, as in two regular people (in my case, not thinking of him or him of me as doctor and nurse. Might be different for others i.e., not thinking of your partner sleeping in a crib for example). My answer was yes, when we have sex I don't picture him with his stethoscope around his neck and my chart in his hand or anything, I see him as a normal guy that I just happen to find very hot and sexy, lol.

The next question he asked me was.....

2)Can you get sexually aroused, and or have pleasurable sex without incorporating anything medical? Such as shots, enemas, examination, scopes, thermometers, etc.? My answer again was absolutely yes I can and do. I don't have to have those things included in my sex life, and I don't have to be on an exam table, lol.

So the shrink said, well you answered yes to being able to have pleasurable sex without having to bring anything medical into it, so NO you do not have a paraphiliac disorder.

So I hope maybe this helps clear things up, clear as mud right? lol.

Enemas for anything except health ARE a fetish. Fetishes are not a bad thing. They add variety to life.

I think the term people are looking for is paraphelia. A paraphelia is when you can't get sexually aroused without the presence of your fetish or fetish object. Current psychological thinking is to move away from considering fetishes psychologically abnormal, providing that the fetish is not dangerous, but that paraphelia are abnormal.

Of course, a person with a paraphelia who is happy with their sexuality and we'll adjusted in other areas of there life is probably not going to be seeking psychological help, so the psychiatric communities frame of reference for what constitutes normal well be skewed toward the vanilla..

I admit that I have a fetish for enema/douche equipment, especially those vintage items of beauty and efficiency. Those items evoke a response that can enhance a number of reactions, especially the involuntary ones. I also admit to having the paraphilia, that a love and enjoyment of enemas triggers.

One thing I don't consider, is that these personal preferences are a "Disorder". The reality is that I enjoy all of the typical or "normal" relationships and sexual interactions, that all other "normal" folks do.

Enemas are a very simple procedure and pleasure that enhance my overall well being and bring about significant relaxation and/or stimulation depending on the circumstances under which I indulge or am indulged.

Undoubtedly, there are those who can't fathom my enjoyment of such things (kinks?). But, I've never seen any need to patronize those so called professional shrinks. After all, I've never forced my own preferences on others, nor have I failed to share my preferences with those who desire to experience the positive aspects regardless of the unique nature.

The OP refers to DSM-IV definiion of a paraphilia as 3 criteria. The newer version (DSM-V) redefines paraphilias as: ".... eight conditions: exhibitionistic disorder, fetishistic disorder, frotteuristic disorder, pedophilic disorder, sexual masochism disorder, sexual sadism disorder, transvestic disorder, and voyeuristic disorder." Also, ".... for a kink or fetish to qualify as a paraphilic disorder, the arousal pattern/behavior must create significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning."

The bar is constantly changing. As society accepts - or social interest or political groups promote - what was once non-traditional or paraphilia behavior as now being the new "normal".

So enjoy your enemas/kinks/fetish/parahilia/mental disorder/pyschosis or whatever. Don't feel guilty about them, but don't expect or force others to accept or respect them either.

I'm more and more motivated to train myself in the direction of pure fetishism. As time goes on the more I'm interested in avoiding any more relationships.
