Yeah, she did. However, for the next few years I saw a different pediatrician who never wore gloves. He would just wash his hands before while making some kind of joking apology about his hands probably being cold (which they were lol). Also started having my mom step out of the room for the genital exam. I thought it was odd that he didn’t wear gloves when he was feeling around down there and checking for hernia since other doctors I’d seen had worn them.

13 or 14…..the time where there was a focus on it.

But all before that…I definitely remember my doctor pulling back the front of my underwear while I was lying down and him sticking his hand in and pushing around. Always right after the palpation on my stomach and upper groin area.

And never with a glove….always bare hand

I remember a physical where I was 5 or six and being naked the whole time. The next couple were n my underwear and the doctor would pull down my briefs to my knees as I was laying on the exam table. When I was 10 or eleven, he would do the genital/hernia exam with me standing in front of my mom. Mercifully, by the time I was in high school, I was going to my sports physicals by myself. They were always done in just my underwear with no gown.

I've had my genitals checked for as long as I remember. At every yearly physical, my doctor would pull down my panties briefly to "check all the nooks and crannies."

First time i remember as an adult was during my immigration exam, wasnt expecting it and quite embarrassing

It wasn't a genital exam per se but the first time I was instructed to lower my shorts was for the now largely abandoned "turn your head and cough" hernia check during a sports physical exam. the first real genital exam came some years later, just prior to my vasectomy. my most memorable genital exam came much later, when my then female pcp asked me if I was circumcised and then made a point of staring at my penis. It's the only time a woman other than a lover ever did this to me.

I’ve never had an examination by any Dr that included removal of my underwear or hernia or any kind of examination “down there” I guess this is because I haven’t recorded medical issues or history in that region. Am I just lucky ? Or unlucky.

@SubPatient4u I haven’t had any medical issues or history in that region either. But still back as far as I can remember, the doctor would tell me, "Drop your pants, please,", and it wasn't a question. He was the adult in charge of me at that moment, and I felt I had to obey without any kind of resistance.

Now. Would you have like to have had been checked for hernia back then ? The answer to that determines if you were lucky or unlucky.

Not once in my school years or at a drs office was I ever asked to drop’em. I just also never had yearly physicals. My mother never took me for regular checkups just isn’t a thing in the UK growing up. If you were sick or had a condition I’m sure the requirement may have been requested but I just was never sick growing up, never got injured, I was very active in sports and a lot of physical activity but in my day kids were just left to get on with it. I’ve never subscribed to being asked to come in to a drs office on my drs request, I’ve only ever gone when I needed to go, still no one has ever asked to delve into my nether region.

In AU, regular physicals aren’t a common thing, unless there is an issue. First time was as a younger kid for a skin condition around my groin (was maybe 8yrs old). Most recent exam did as was a full physical.

For as long as I can Remember, the doctor would always look inside my underwear by pulling the front down a little. The exam was brief and only involved pressing around my going on both sides. The first time I had My scrotum and penis actually touched by my dr was when I was 12.

The purpose of the visit was to assess a lump on my scrotum. Checking my penis was an afterthought. I really can’t answer why circumcised/uncircumcised may have been important to her

Probably before I was a teenager. I do remember my first rectal though

When I was a kid the doctor would feel along the length of my penis, spread the tip to look at the urethral opening and run his fingers around the area at the base of the glans.

The only time I’ve had a genital exam was when I had a lump on one of my testicles which turned out to just be a cyst. The doctor examined each testicle before checking my urethral opening having retracted my foreskin slightly before asking me to get fully dressed. Bit half hearted really but an indicator of what to expect in future and strangely enjoyable.

Speaking only for myself, I am circumcised but it was done loosely leaving extra skin. So, when I am very soft, it can be hard to tell if I am cut or if I am uncut and the foreskin is retracted. I was never asked about it, though, to my recollection. They just did their manual/visual check.

For me, it is having the doctor see my penis that makes me nervous. Yes, the scrotum and balls are different from man to man, but the distinctive part of genital anatomy is the penis. I think it’s the size and the circumcision status that guys are anxious about.

Started off with the “let’s take a peek” and wound up with “stand up, drop your underwear, turn your head and cough” for me.

I’m not sure why the doctor looking at my penis has always made me nervous. I am considerably larger than most guys at just under 8” erect length and almost 6” girth. It was circumcised as an infant exposing a large grey-purple glans with an attractive shape, a normal meatus, and no frenulum.
