Anyone here wrestled in school in the past or currently wrestling?
Any skin check experiences?
I attended wrestling camp for four years in high school. It was basically like a summer camp, but focused on wrestling, and it took place in the remote campsites. First two years, after we arrived, we had a group skin check/basic physical in the changing room as we lined up. It was a female nurse (middle age) doing them. We lined up in briefs, and the nurse put on gloves before each wrestler, and examined us. We stood with our arms to our sides as she visually examined us, and ran her hands down our sides. She then put on a stethoscope and listened to our hearts and lungs, both front and back, while standing up, and then we were told to go back and change into our wrestling singlets for practice. The briefs never came down, and each wrestler could see the nurse examining the wrestler.
Third year, I had to arrive two days late to camp due to family issues. I arrived there in the mid afternoon when everyone was having a practice match. I went to the camp coach and he told me the cabin to put my stuff in, and changed into my wrestling singlet. (I wore my briefs underneath) with my wrestling shoes.
I went back to get into practice, and the coach told me that I need to see the nurse for a prelim skin check first, so I went to the nurse's cabin. I opened the door and nurse greeted me, and it was the same nurse as usual, but she was wearing her street clothes. She asked me if I hurt myself. I answered no, and said that coach told me to come here for a prelim skin check, and explained that I arrived late due to family issues.
She told me that she understood, and then grabbed a stethoscope from her desk, and told me to take off my singlet and my wrestling shoes. I did, and stood there in my briefs. It felt awkward standing inside the nurse's cabin, but I didn't think anything more of it. I remember her next words still.
"Take off your briefs also please."
I was shocked, and froze there, and she repeated the instruction, pointing to my briefs. I pulled them down to my knees, but then she told me to remove them and put them with my singlet.
Like before, she told me to put my arms to my side, and put on gloves and examined the back and the front in detail for any skin lesions. Her hands also ran down my buttocks, (but didn't separate them) and she also examined the genital area, lifting the penis, and examining the scrotum, pushing my testicles to each side. She then listened to my heart and lungs as I stood there naked.
I was hoping this to be over with, but then she put her stethoscope around her neck. "You're not circumcised, do you have problems with your foreskin?" I knew what she said, but I stuttered, being nervous.
She pulled a chair over, and then sat in front of me, and took my penis in her hand and pulled the foreskin back, and visually examined them, lifting and moving it around while the skin was retracted. She then moved onto the testicles and gently rolled them.
"OK you can put your singlet back on now, you're cleared for camp." she said.
I was relieved, and put my singlet back on and rushed out of there. I could not believe that she did a genital exam also for wrestling.
I asked my friend if the nurse did a "ball check" this year, but apparently it was the same skin check procedure as last two years. He asked me if she did the "ball check" on me, and I just lied and said no, being embarassed.
Now that I look back, I think the nurse was taking advantage of the situation by giving me a more detailed skin check, given that there were no other students or coaches around.
