Can volume shrink?

When I first started taking enemas, I could easily take about 3 quarts of water (one and a half bags). Since then, I've gotten very advanced into anal play and can take a 12" or longer object straight up with no problem. (Basically, my lower colon no longer significantly curves... it's essentially straightened itself out.)

I've noticed over the last few years that I can no longer take more than a full bag (2 quarts), and sometimes even less than that. (I measure total volume by seeing how much I can take after I clean out all the matter.) My theory is that since my colon is "straightened" out instead of "curving" where the sigmoid would be, the total volume that I can take has shrunk.

Is this plausible? Have I traded off one ability for another -- more than one bag in exchange for toy depth?

We all have different moods, and different stages that we go through. Relaxed, but determined is the right frame of mind to be in when you take an enema. If you are too scared or nervous, you have no capacity.

I don't know about a change in volume as a trade off, but the thing that strikes me as most interesting is that you suggest you have succeeded in modifying the shape of your colon by straightening out your sigmoid curves.

Could it be explained by achieving a better insertion technique?

Is it actually possible to achieve this beyond a temporary change.

I would like to hear if any others have had similar relevant experiences and if any straightening is likely to be permanent.

As our individual anatomy is so varied this might be of interest to those of us that have discovered that our own gut has some very tight curves. 😁

According to this therapist, full capacity enemas should only have a beneficial effect on the colon.

Introducing an enema to full colon capacity will result in a therapeutic distension or expansion of the colon. With repeated enema sessions, this “stretching” process will tend to realign and reconstitute the integrity of the organ within the abdominal cavity towards a normal shape, size, and position. By using gravity along with this stretching action, old kinks, loops, gnarls, or twists of the colon can be corrected. Massaging techniques—especially massaging techniques, which also incorporate gravity—are useful to realign and lift the colon back into a normal position, especially the transverse section. Administering the large enema in the knee-chest position is a good example of how gravity can be used to promote the “re-education” process.

@allfull: my theory rests on the reshaping of the colon because I've gotten very advanced with toys and dildos. I can take something that's long but both wide OR narrow straight in without having to navigate and turns. In the last few years, I could feel the ends of these things by pressing above and to the left of my belly button... recently, it's slowly progressed more to the center of the belly which is why I believe my lower colon has essentially been "straightened." Of course, I won't ever know without going through an x-ray!

I suppose what I was seeking was information concerning the likelihood of permanent changes in position of the colon resulting from either enema or other physical manipulation and therefore both responses were on target.

However, I am not very convinced that any changes would not be only of a temporary nature.

1. During colonoscopy curves are straitened out only to go back to their original shape. ( if this was repeatedly performed the duration that the straitening lasted might be extended as in the case of your dildo use etc.- do you exercise often?)

2. The ability of enemas to reposition the bowel based on the evidence that I have seen appears quite shaky. (This consists of a series of barium enema x-rays that appear to be badly chosen ie:the before one shows some areas of filled bowel and other areas that are empty and collapsed- typical of a post evacuation view.

The after images on the other hand show the bowel fully expanded and full of barium or air.)

I find it very hard to draw the conclusion that any real change has taken place based on this alone.

I would be interested in any evidence showing changes and also any additional input from other knowledgeable people of this forum

If you truly have less capacity than you started with, I think a Barium Enema would be wise to see if a kink or tumor is causing a blockage.in your lower Colon.....

I've found that the temperature of the enema has a lot to do with how much i can take. i have a hard time taking cool enemas. If the temp is warmer than body temp it's easier to take more enema solution.

Sometimes you have to try and find a position that's right for you. I've tried things like on my back with my butt raised so the water flows downhill into me, or on my knees and face down, or just kneeling with my belly pushed out to try and make "more room" inside. I don't do more than 2 quarts very often, but when I do, those positions have helped me get up to 3 and once even 4 quarts. Sometimes it's just a matter of how much your colon is willing to accept that day - I've had days where I can't do more than 2 and it has to come out immediately, but sometimes it feels like there's just nothing inside me and I can take another bag without a problem. Frequent practice with stretching your colon to the point where it's almost uncomfortable might help your volume expand over time. I've also started playing with deeper toys recently, pushing them past my sigmoid, though I can only get about 12" in so far before it presses against something uncomfortable and won't go any further. The dildo I have isn't really as flexible as I was hoping, so it seems to straighten things out as it goes rather than twisting to fit all the curves. I haven't yet noticed any reduction in volume because of this, although there's an interesting worked-out feeling in my guts for a few hours after I've deeply penetrated all the curves with a thick toy.

It can vary from session to session. Preparation is a big part.

Are there safe ways to increase capacity, say from three quarts to four quarts? Does holding a three quart enema for say ten minutes increase capacity? Any help would be appreciated!

@BFusion: I've gotten so I regularly take six quart enemas. If I don't for a period of time, say three months, my first enema will be more like five quarts. But once I am cleaned out and using warm water I have no problems stretching back to six quarts.

Also, if you've gained or lost a lot of weight, this might affect your capacity. If you've recently been doing stomach crunches to get six pack abbs this might affect capacity.

If you have regularly been taking three quart enemas and suddenly, under similar conditions, find you can only take much less I would be suspicious that you have a medical problem. My suggestion: go see a doctor.

I've seen pictures on the internet of healthy colon x-rays and cancer colon x-rays. The healthy colon is of a similar width the whole length. But the cancerous colon is greatly narrowed in one section. This makes a blockage and would surely restrict capacity.

I am not a doctor or medical person, but if you have an unexplained reduction in capacity, I would be suspicious that something is medically wrong. Go see a doctor.

PS: I've used various dildos, of length & width, mop handles and even the handle of a baseball bat to get off. I've had them deep enough in me to touch my belly button from the inside. This has not changed my enema capacity at all. (I've done all that and still can't get a colon tube deeper than about 20 inches. So I don't suppose doing so permanently straightens out any curves.)

@William 2009: The safest way to increase capacity is to take regular large volume enemas and occasionally try for more volume.

It took me a LONG time (several years) to get to 4 quarts and a few years longer to get to 6 quarts.

I got my first 4 quart enema around 1988 or 1989, I remember the event. I don't really remember when I first started taking 6 quart enemas: sometime in the late 1990's.

I remember taking my first 8 quart enemas around 2001. But I really didn't feel safe about it. It felt intense and dangerous. So I backed off.

I went through a long period of time where I did not take enemas on a regular basis, up through 2008. When I started again, I quickly moved to 6 quart enemas again. Sometimes I have to start with one or two 5 quart clean out enemas, but after that I can easily take a series of 6 quart enemas very safely. Sometimes, I try for more volume and I can usually get 7 quarts. One night a few months ago, I got 8 quarts, but wasn't expecting it and haven't been able to duplicate it.

I've been on a Lenten Fast for the last 40 days... My brain is fevered for my first enema..probably Monday 4/1/2013 in the wee hours of the AM.

I know I used to regularly take 6 quarts that I had worked up to over the years, then last summer I did not do enemas as regularly as I did before and now it is rare that I can get 6 quarts in. On just a few occasions I got almost 8 quarts in, but now that seems impossible. I am still working on getting back to 6 quarts, but 4 quarts is pretty well it for now.

I've also been out of the habit of regular Enemas, so my capacity has also shrunk a bit. I'm working on longer retention with smaller volume and will increase as I can. That's where having a regular Enema buddy would come in handy.

In the while since I started this thread, I think I've figured out the issue that most of you guys have mentioned.

I think it's just a matter of frequency. I've noticed that when I don't take water for a while, I can barely finish a 2-quart bag. After a week or two of consistent enemas, I can take 3 quarters or so. It doesn't seem like the organ distribution is really the problem after all!

Those of you who are trying to drain the lake dry with your enemas, I would caution you that these large volume enemas can cause your colon to grow. Such growth is known as mega colon and can lead to serious medical problems that go way beyond recreation. Before you pursue these huge volumes, I would suggest that you research the mega colon syndrome for yourselves.

It WILL vary, that's inevitable!!

Just accept it, and start with an amount you are sure you can handle that day.
