The State of MedFet in an Overtly Sexual World

If the embarrassment of being exposed is part of the thrill of medfet, does the thrill diminish as society becomes more overtly sexual? When I was younger, sexual encounters usually occurred behind closed doors with someone that you knew and trusted. Therefore, the thought of being exposed and examined by a complete stranger was extremely arousing for me.

Now it seems that people are willing to get naked in public and be filmed and photographed in a state of undress without any shame whatsoever. What then can trigger embarrassment in the era of Girls Gone Wild and amateur porn? Can being naked in front of a doctor elicit the same nervous excitement that it did years ago? Is the thrill simply gone?

This is an excellent question and I hope to have quite a few great responses. Let me think on it for a bit.

You have a very intersting issue here.

Iatronudia, ancient latin word really refers to something like " feeling the thrill and arousal of getting undressed in front of the Doctor".

Considered as a paraphilia by psychiatrits the term Iatronudia is for sure one of the first identified roots of medical fetish and with the banality of nudity the thrill of it may really loose some "erotic potential".

But being medfet such structured fetish I really don't think the thrill will go away with social sexual evolution conventions and practices. This medical fetish is a power game and is about being closely examined, thoroughly, inch by inch sometimes, listened, touched ,palpated and most intimate probed.

Medfet may become more sophisticated, more techonlogical or more kinky and even more invasive though as a result of modern social changes; the variety of tastes is so large that many variations will keep on going depending on the players and fetichists

If I had not been conditioned to remain clothed and proper when young by my father and how bad it was for a young girl to be naked I would not have had the trouble I did. I've wondered if I had grown up with nudity being no big deal then it wouldn't be anything special to get naked for the doctor.I have noticed with some younger females a very casual tone about going to the doctors .As if it it really is not anything.Of course many have tattoo's and piercing and that is done by some guy in a tattoo parlor. So a professional doctor would be nothing I guess for most girls.

A very good question that will be sure to elicit very interesting answers and discussions.

But before going in on the question, I can't help but ponder on your statement of society becoming more overtly sexual. If anything, at least from my perspective, I see society in the West becoming just the opposite. Anything having to do with sex is becoming something very much frowned upon, old-fashioned morality and prudishness is back and in general I can only see society in general becoming more disapproving of sexual things ... one has to tiptoe around many issues and be doubly certain that remarks or opinions will not cause offense.

If anything, the 'Culture Wars' in the US have become something that are being exported (or imported according to one's point of view) into many other countries around the world. What with American media being so prevalent on TV and in theaters and the Internet, people cannot help but be affected by the (disapproving) attitudes that more and more (vehemently at times) emanate from the US ...

Just to keep with a example that falls within our purview as it were: how often has the use of gowns not been remarked upon as being something that was not in use in previous decades, say from prior to the 1990's-80's? Where does the new squeamishness of youngsters come from when they do not to shower in public or change in locker rooms? When i was young I went to a YMCA that mandated nude swimming for members. I would certainly not wish to try and re-institute the practice nowadays ... or what to think of the practice of holding Chastity Balls? When I was young I think that it would have been laughed out of town. And not because people advocated youngsters having sex at an early age, but because of the sheer ridiculousness of the thing. What better way to focus teenagers attention?

These are just a few examples ... I just see things becoming less and less sexual ...

Sure just think back to the 70's and 80's. Sexuality was discussed a lot more openly then. Today it seems like people are sooo uptight about sex that it is not talked about at all. I'm talking about the US. Other countries are much more open about it.

Don't kid yourself about that last. Most countries are slowly evolving in the same direction as the US ... it just takes them a bit longer to get there. The preponderance of influence that (unwillingly mostly but just as much expressly in other regards) is wielded by the US cultural matrix has its results by and by.

And aside from the US, other non-Western countries are even far more repressed about these matters. This also has its influence in the world, if only through the immigration process which spreads people and their different cultural values and mores throughout the world much more quickly than ever before.

A large part of it is the transfer of control to the doctor. Girls Gone Wild etc - for the most part the girls are doing it on THEIR terms. It's tease. They're in control but in a med situation the doctor has the control so you're exposing at his/her whim and instruction. Then they're opening you, probing you etc. The nervousness at undressing in front of a stranger with the doctor scenario is more about power transfer than it is exposure

so the short answer is no, I don't think the fetish will go away.

Re overt sexuality - it's a pendulum. Always has been. Georgian licentiousness turns into Victorian chastity which turns into the Roaring Twenties, which turns into the Depression which turns into the 40's (a lot of the troops were sent off to war with a bang), fifties and early 60s turn into the summer of love through the early 80s which turns into chastity balls in the 90's and 00's. We're already swinging back the other way.

Their is a paradox of sorts with the "under 40" age group. It in not common to find a young lady with no tattoos or piercings (except ears) anymore. Pierced belly buttons, nipples, and clitoral hood require increasing stages of undressing. Tattoos is areas usually covered by clothing is much more common with breasts, buttocks, thighs, and pubic mound being some common sites popular with younger women. Tattoos require removal of clothing for an extended period of time and touching of intimate areas by a stranger whose qualifications may include a stint in prison. There is also the element of pain and risk of infection with piercings.

Both tattoos and piercings used to be a sign of rebellion when I was growing up. I never saw a man with a pierced ear until the early 1970's. I never saw a woman with a tattoo until after 1980. Now-a-days it is very refreshing and enjoyable to be at the beach and see a young lady with no tattoos or belly button ring. The most annoying thing I have seen are women with tongue piercings. A girl can have the hottest looks in the world but as soon as she says "Hi whathhhhh your name?" I answer back "Sylvester".

Hmm, not sure what will happen.. Maybe for those who have gotten into med fet only in an adult age this may be the case, but I'm not sure if the same is true for those who's med fet has started due to experienced as a kid. At least for me it all got started when I was 10-12 only so I don't think I even realized back then how open or shy the society was about sexuality overall and would believe the same still holds for those who are 10-12 these days. I believe that having to drop down panties and being examined down there is a huge thing for any kid no matter how the world around looks like and the memories will stay for a long time afterwards.. There's great vulnerability in submission to a medical exam, and a profound focus on the physical body. It's the intense assessment, the measuring and the evaluating, the peering and the probing and the questioning, that I find arousing and compelling. It's such a specific power relationship, I don't think there's any danger of medfet extinction.

I think it is a question of barriers -- both visible and invisible. When the barrier is crossed, one's emotional reactions, including embarassment, take over. Physical barriers can be clothes, or a closed door, etc.. Invisible barriers can be the presence of a third party, the perception that one is staring at the body, or physical contact, among others. A long time ago a patient told me that when she was in the hospital, she expected doctors and nurses to see her unclothed body and as her gown provided little cover, she was prepared. But a week after her discharge when she unexpectedly had to undress for an injection, she was embarassed and self conscious. Even though she had had several injections a week earlier in the hospital, her barrier had been crossed.

Diminished? I think the thrill will become stronger now.

The people you see, of either sex, naked or half naked on camera for the world to see, the people who pose for underwear ads, the people in all the porn that you see, they all have perfect bodies, all the women are skinny, all the men are thin or athletic. Most people don't have these bodies and become embarrassed about their own. Being not so confident about our own bodies will heighten the embarrassment we feel when we have to undress for a physical, you start to think to yourself, things like "What if I'm the fattest patient he's had today?" or "What if this guy just got finished examining a really hot guy/girl, I must be a real downgrade"

I definitely do not think the increasing overtly sexual that society has become decreases the pleasure of medical exam play. My thrill comes from being naked in front of a stranger who is in control and remains completely dressed while showing indifference and insensitivity to me embarrassment. I do not allow my examiners to undress at any time or grope me in any way that would be out of keeping with a realistic exam. In addition, I allow no personal relationship to develop between me and either of my examiners. We do not even exchange social pleasantries.

My perception is that while society is becoming less and less modest about nudity, doctor's offices are becoming more so. I haven't been asked to strip to my underwear for a physical in a long time. Several doctors, both male and female, have conducted most of the exam through the clothing.

There may be a connection here. If all of life is becoming sexualized, and doctors want the examination to be a non-sexual experience, then they may be forced to make the exam more modest.

I think something similar has happened in men's locker rooms as gay relationships have become more accepted. Many men in locker rooms used to socialize freely without hiding their nakedness, because the assumption was that everyone was straight and no one was making a sexual overture. Today that is no longer the case.

I'm not so sure that this is an "overtly sexual world." Even to say an overtly sexual country is somewhat of a stretch. While ready access to television and the internet in many parts of the world sometimes makes it seem as if everything is centered around sex; religions, governments, and many individuals do their utmost to supress anything even remotely associated with sex and sexual subjects - ask the people of Tampa, FL how much money has been spent trying to shut down the nude bars. Although women are not forced to wear burkas where I live and advertisements for ladies' underwear are still in newspapers, several adult satellite TV channels are blocked because a radical few have managed to force their convictions on everyone else. Additionally, a number of companies that sell adult products will not ship here because certain adult items are banned and many stores will not sell Playboy or Penthouse because they are offensive to some. So far as medfet, it is not much better. Several times I have carefully tried to bring up the subject of medfet with individuals I thought would be receptive to the topic. Although these individuals seemed open-minded and readily discussed other risqué subjects, their responses to medfet implied that they believe there is something wrong with anyone who enjoys medical scenarios and procedures. Fortunately, this site has not been blocked. It is a great place where we can talk openly about our fetishes and share our thoughts with other like-minded, non-judgmental people.

Things are far from being overtly sexual in just about any country that I can think of. That indeed repressed, anxious and insecure people talk and make a big fuss about their own personal fears. And unfortunately there are many people in politics and religion and authority who have the clout to enforce many of their misconceptions ...

When I first got married in the early sixties, there was a moral decree of society for women to cover up.

When my wife first went to have a works medical she would not tell me a thing about what happen because "nice women do not do that", but you could tell it had an effect on her. When I was posted abroad, when she became pregnant, I went alone to the exams to support her. Like in the UK I expected to wait outside in the waiting room, but her doctor told me to come in. Being in Europe the exam was done without gown or covering and it was the first time I had really seen her. It could have been that I was watching, but she was so sexually charged stripping off in front of the dr.

I have often thought it was sociality or tradition saying that men should not see you naked, but she wanted to break the moral bonds and by going to the dr she was making nudity "morally legal"

It really changed her, she keep the light on when we had sex, and expected me to go to all her pre/post natal exams

My daughters on the other hand, found no excitement in going to the doctors at all and just treated in as a chore. Their attitude was that they went at least topless on beaches so what was so special about stripping off at the dr.

We have just had our 2 days of summer so women are wearing strapless dresses and flip flops. We were amazed at the amount of women with tats. Not just discreet ones, but covering most of their back, and it is not limited to the young, a lot of grannies are being tattooed. Something I would have never had seen in the 60's

You're certainly right about tattoos becoming very prevalent in the more northern countries. I'm just back in Belgium from Spain and up here it seems like one is a bit odd in not having one. Down south, where the weather is extremely hot and the ladies and girls wear even less than here, one hardly sees tattoos at all ...

Very interesting question .I have two answers.Maybe being in the UK it's different but these are my thoughts.For myself I'm still very nervous yet very excited about going to the doctor.The anticipation, fear and excitement start a day or two before the visit.Even though the same thing happens each week at that appointment.I was an 80's child .Everyone did everything together.The changing rooms /locker rooms were just one big room.Everyone got naked together.It didn't matter if you were nude in the garden in the pool.All the girls took a shower after sport.No one took any notice.People kissed in front of others. The family doctor was more of a friend .As a mum I'd say now as society as it is, the thrill has probably gone.There is much more shame linked with things these days.It is drummed into our kids from an early age that they need to keep their clothes on,cubicles are provided everywhere to change,showers after sport at school no longer exist and even an x - ray on an arm and you are given a gown. I seem to have the impression that the 90's is way too late a date already. Our kids and their friends, all born around the mid 70's are ever so prudish and reluctant about nudity. And I can't say that we had done anything explicit in forming the kids that way, far from it. It just seems to be something they pick up by social osmosis somehow ... from friends, school, peers and heavens knows where else. Maybe it's just a simple reaction-to-elders thing, whereby they unconsciously adopt opposite stances on things just to be able to differentiate themselves from their parents.

It's ironic that patient modesty has become so important in an increasingly sexual world. People describe full nude exams with just a doctor present 40 years ago, whereas today that's almost criminal. If people didn't care about nudity, why not just remove the gown at the start of the exam so the doctor can assess the patient's body without obstructions?

Ahhh ... but is the world increasingly sexual? I fear that is the false narrative put out in the media and spread by word of mouth by people and groups who don't approve of modernity in many of its aspects, certainly not the (relative) sexual freedom gained in the late 60's through 80's. For them it's an abomination and a digression from the correct way society should be ordered. So the tale is told of how liberal and unrestricted things are and are ever becoming. Exaggeration is needed in order to make their point, but that doesn't necessarily make it correct.

Sexual freedom is more than just being able to look at pix and vids on the Internet. Compared to the 70's and 80's we do now have a globalized way of accessing imagery, but at the same time it is becoming more restricted in the real world, attitudes towards non-sexual things like nudity in school showers, at the doctors office, in various forms of art and sculpture are much more prudish than several decades ago.

Why this is so, is likely long enough to take up a whole book, but anyone who grew up in those decades as a young adult should be able to see the difference in attitudes, then and now. Western society, headed by the Anglo-Saxon countries, is becoming more and more disapproving ...

"thrill" is based on what's in one's head. For some, the thrill may diminish. For others the thrill will be there regardless.

Nervous excitement is all generated from within in regards to one's own body. being in front of a doctor will either give you that or it won't, based on your own disposition. How is your own disposition affected by what goes on around you? The answer will vary with different people..
