Anybody else into latex hoods & masks? I love them all from medical type masks through to rubber hoods with gags etc. Just recently I have been looking at a latex hood in black rubber with a slightly loose face panel in clear latex with a small breathing hole.....Anybody tried one?

Since my original post on the subject I have purchased a breath control hood from medicaltoys. Black latex hood with a translucent loose face panel and a small breathing hole. Medical toys & some other outlets seem to stock some very soft black rubber rebrather bags & I think they look fantastic....I'm just a bit worried about the lack of oxygen. My facemask / hood has a small hole to allow some fresh air to be drawn in but not so with a rebreather bag. How long would it be safe to use one without danger of unconsciousness etc??

I have a size 6 anesthesia mask and a 3L rebreather bag. I too was worried about suffocation as I recall being little and told not to play with plastic bags on your head.

The solution I came with was quite simple. I use a 3/4 inch PVC "Tee". One end connects to the mask through a PVC coupler made from 3/4" PVC pipe. The downward part connects to the bag through another coupler and the end opposite the mask has a PVC cap. Into that cap, I drilled a 1/4" air hole. When I breath in an out, the bag inflates and deflates but air also enters and exits through the hole. As such, it is an open system and I have had no problems wearing it for one-half hour. In fact, there is a bit of a whistling noise that indicates air is flowing. You can always place your finger over the hole to close the system temporarily.

EDIT: Forgot about bdgsales.com. They sell 5L bags as well as masks, harnesses, etc. I have never ordered from them so I cannot vouch for them.

I have assembled a large collection of rubber breathing gear over the years. I have a rebreather mask which is a black mask with clear panel at the front that has holes. The panel can be sucked back and forth with breathing. The one problem I have encountered however is that at first all is well. The mask is sucked to the face but air still just about seeps in. The problem is that very quickly moisture from my breath lines the inside of the latex and it starts to stick together. This makes it harder and harder to breath. Sounds great but ends up me not being able to wear it for very long before being breathless. Any ideas on something to use to stop this happening? I've tried talc which helps a bit but quickly stops working once it gets damp.

Where are you buying latex surgical masks? I'm a retired doctor and am using regular cloth/paper surgery masks for Covid-19 but have never seen one in rubber or latex except maybe at a fetish store. Where are they from and can you quote a brand name? Thanks,

For latex surgical masks I started searching via google, but the best place for multiple types would have to be Etsy. They have them from all over the place, colors, styles, etc. you can purchase ear loop, tie on, and straps that go around your head. Search either latex surgical mask or latex nurse mask.

Unbelievably it has been well over ten years since I first started this thread & started some serious play with latex hoods, masks & eventually a soft latex (neoprene?) rebreather bag.
