Have YOU been catheterized ?

Further to my previous entry on this topic where I said it was on my “to do” list, I was recently diagnosed as having a high PSA level and subsequently had an MRI scan to see why.

Side note - GET YOUR PSA LEVEL CHECKED if you have a prostate.

The scan showed I had an enlarged prostate and an enlarged bladder that I hadn’t completely emptied. The MRI operator told me to come back in a couple of days if I hadn’t managed to empty it so that I could be catheterised. I’ve not done so but future, possibly imminent, ablation treatment will probably include the use of a catheter for a short while as things heal. Something for later in the year.

I had a foley when in surgery for an inguinal hernia, but I was anesthetized. They removed it before I woke up. But the nurse in recovery insisted that I pee before being discharged. I couldn't, so she threatened to cath me again. Then a portable ultrasound tech arrived and determined that my bladder was still empty, so she let me go after promising to come back if I had trouble peeing. I've actually fantasized about being cathed, but it just didn't seem like the right time, and it probably would have hurt due to the foley during surgery.

Being catheterized in a clinical setting is vastly different from the kinky stuff.

In a hospital they only lubed the tip (and first few inches), they used some chinesium stuff and did it fast. Plus your mind isn't at ease.

The kinky stuff uses better lube, goes slowly, you usually have a good shower prior to be squicky clean and about 8-10 cc of lube goes into the urethra first. Totally different animal.

@Xperience You are absolutely correct. I had a catheter placed during surgery and it was in place for about four weeks. after an extensive second surgery the catheter was remove. that night I had retention issues and had to be catherized. I was so surprized, a uroligist came in with the nurse and quickly catherized me. they did no prep no batadine prep, just lubed a catheter and in it went. there was no pain or anything, it was total relief. but I was surprised by the no prep. I do more cleaning and sanitizing when I do my intermittant caterizations at home for dialation. luckily I didnt get an infection.

First, I would really like to know the feeling of having it done the how it feels to have it in.Can you get an erection when it is in place? Can you cum when it is in? I would be curious to experience having it done and all, but how? Maybe someone can fill me in.

As it with several members on this thread, I was catheterized once as a result of surgery. I was out when it was inserted. It was removed when I got out of recovery and I was moved to my room. I didn't have any discomfort when the nurse removed it.

When I had a bladder tumor removed years ago, my bladder sphincter decided to take a break, and shortly after returning home from that procedure, I was unable to empty my bladder. Headed for the local emergency room, which was crowded, and apparently my very full bladder wasn’t high on their priority list that night. I was finally taken to a room, and a very kind nurse told me that was a frequent result of bladder surgery/anesthesia, and she further explained she’d cath me to “jump start” my sphincter. She quickly grasped my penis, shot in a numbing gel, explained that she’d prefer to wait until the gel numbed me, but since I was so miserable, she was going to insert the catheter immediately. Which, to my great relief she did, and I didn’t mind a little discomfort as it went in, and I was able to drain my bladder into a bedpan. I asked her if she thought my sphincter was now awake and ready to return to duty, and she assured me that all

Should be well - and she was correct. Never had that issue again.

I had it done when I was pregnant and hospitalized due to ealry labor and then had it in at the start of labor. It wasnt fun by any means but also I was in labor and uncomfortable anyway so I didnt pay it much attention.

I had an emergency surgery due to a bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue. I woke up in my room after surgery and immediately attempted to get out of bed. When I stood up I didn’t realize I was tied to a catheter. I said “What the hell !” To my self and immediately called the nurse. When she showed up I told her to take the catheter out right now and asked why I had one. She replied, “No one thought you would be able to get out of bed so we did that as a precaution.” I started walking towards her and said,”I want this out now!”

She replied, “I’ll have to check with the Dr.

She said, “ You need to get back in bed! “

“Not until you take this out!” I replied.

I got my way and 5 minutes later I had it out and later went to the restroom. Then I started out the door walking down the hall past the nurses. They all freaked out and got me a walker so I wouldn’t fall. I told them thank you, I’ll call you when I need you and went back to my room. I became known as Superman! Go figure. It still took me 8 days before they would release me as I had to wait for my bowels to wake up and recover. It was the longest 8 days in my life! I would never wish that type of pain I initially had before surgery on anybody. I thought I was dying.

Anyway, I partially woke up. After waking up enough to know what time it was, I knew I had a catheter. But it was like 1:00 or 1:30 am so I tried to sleep. Easier said than done with a catheter! I managed some sleep but very difficult with the catheter and secondarily with IV alarming every time I bent my arm. Somehow I managed to get a little shut-eye but when the doctor came in at ~6:00 am the first thing I said is the catheter has got to go!

He said that I'd have to get up to goto the bathroom. I thought, "yeah doc. Tell me something that I don't know." I knew that would be less than ideal since it hurt but I knew there was no way I could sleep the next night if that stayed in.

They wanted to make sure I could get up and walk before they would take the catheter out. When they came to walk me, I said "let's go!" I couldn't wait to get up. I needed some help since in and out of bed with IVs in both arms (not sure why) catheter and nasal tube. After a couple trips around the pod, I said that I was getting a little more winded than I normally would. Wrong thing to say! They made me return to bed but the good news is the catheter came out right after that.

After it was out, I made a bee line for the bathroom and after peeing, finally felt normal as far as that was concerned.

Still had some pain and they still needed to help me in/out of the bed that day and I think the next. I was in for 5 days until I first passed gas and then pooped. But by day 4 and 5 I had shed the IVs, nasal tube and of course the catheter. Pain (which was never that bad) subsided and I was cruising around faster than almost all the staff.

I had 5 days vs 8 but yeah, longest 5 days of my life. Hospitals are very boring! My heart goes out to those that aren't as lucky and don't recover nearly as quickly or can't leave their room. First day or so was rough but once I could get up and walk around, at least I had that.

Yes with a very thin length of tubing.. I did this my self and will never forget the wonderful sensation as the tubing passed through and urine started flowing.
