The wife and I are looking to branch out. Any advice on other similar instruments?

Another question is more application based. Is this instrument activily used in medicine and if so what proceduces can you expect to find it? We want to set a realistic mood.

Yes. It is used in those patients suspicious for rectal tumors and cancers. But usually the first procedure is manual exam.

I cannot open the link below but I presume the Matheiu rectal speculum if of the 3 bladed type. Similar instruments in common use would be the Sim's or the Eisenhammer rectal speculum. They both have 2 shaped blades but may be opened wide for examination of the rectum.
