My first experience of being catherized was when I was in hospital.I wasn't told anything a nurse who I think was a philipino just came to my bed opened a packet and proceeded to lube the tube and squirt lube down my urethrer. She inserted the tube then said "i need a bigger one" and off she went.She came back with another one then stuck the tube down my penis and squezzed a small bulb which inflated it a little . She gave a gentle tug on it to make sure it was secure then attached it to a bag which hung from a stand below bed level..I was informed this was to measure the amount of fluid I peed each day.I had no control over peeing, it just came out and ran into the bag. I had this in for a couple of days then they took it away .I never found out anything about what happened to it.I think somehow they measure it but don't know how.

The bag is graduated so they can see how much. I had major surgery and they put the cath in after they knocked me out by sticking a needle in my neck. I did have Philipino nurses as well, I guess the money is better here.

At Mayo Clinic they have a catheter team of catheter technicians who come around every four or five hours to intermittently drain any patient’s urine who are unable to urinate. They frown on Foley catheters due to their cause of high infection rates. They have men techs cath the men, and women techs for the ladies. Foleys when administered are inserted by either sex of nurses.

I would often not even awaken during my early morning catheterizations. During the day we would discuss sports, hunting and crazy wives and girlfriends. It was as if we were having a beer instead of having a man disinfect my pubic are and thread a tube into my penis. Like the saying goes, “It’s only weird the first time.” It did take a while to get used to having another man pee for me.

I was knocked out before they put the Cath in during my one (and only) surgery. Taking it out was no big deal - slight burning sensation. They weren't concerned about the volume of pee that came out - just didn't want me getting up to pee with a lot of drugs in me.

My wife was catheterized and they pumped (IV) a lot of fluids in her to keep her BP and blood flow up. They monitored the amount going in versus the amount going out. If I recall correctly, they charted the amount in the collection bag on a regular basis. The Doc said that they were filling her up with lots of saline - but her kidneys were working extremely well and it was passing through pretty fast.

I'd like to experience the prostate stimulation I've read that some men enjoy when a catheter slides past your prostate, but I guess not everyone feels that or enjoys it. But I'm still too concerned about UTI's to probably ever do it unless it becomes a necessity. Masturbation and orgasm while holding a latex catheter in my penis would also be something I'd like to try if not for the UTI risk. And doing it while holding a large enema would be even better, especially while restrained to enhance the submissiveness to both the catheter and enema.

I have catheterized myself a number of times. I have not had any pain either inserting or withdrawing the catheter. The first couple of times there was some discomfort when I peed, but after those couple of times, I have not had any problem at all.

I enjoy the feeling of a catheter, keeps me from having to make so many trips to the bathroom and since my bladder is active, the trips are frequent. My urologist suggested two different drugs to help stop my over active bladder, but the side effects of the drugs were worse than the trips to the bathroom. I wish I could use a catheter more and stop the frequent trips, but he doesn't see that as a solution.

I also find that I get very hard when I insert a catheter, I stay hard for a long time and then I go back to normal. It is a great feeling since I am an old man. It is nice to be rock hard for a few minutes. That happens also when I have an enema and I get really full of water, but not as readily as when I insert a catheter. I love the feeling of the catheter in my penis.

I find it is also nice to not have to worry about the trips to the toilet. When you are ready, you just drain the bag and go on. Would be nice to use overnight. A whole nights sleep without having to get up and head to the toilet.

About 2 years ago, I had some blood in my urine, I told my Dr. and he ordered a Cat scan. They were looking for a kidney stone. I think I passed it before the Cat scan. That was a different experience. No kidney stones were found. An appointment with an urologist was made.

I got to his office and of course they wanted a sample of urine. Didn't have to be a clean catch one so I went off to the rest room to pee in a cup and put my name on it. They found nothing in my urine.

I had to repeat my story to the nurse, another person and then finally the Dr. I had repeated this story to my family Dr. a couple weeks before.

After listening to my story, I was told to take my pants off and underwear. The Dr. came back in and gave me a pill to take, we went to a low exam table, I took my penis and put some lube in it, then got our a scope and he told me he was going to look inside my bladder and check to make sure everything was A-OK. In went the scope, we looked on the monitor and you could see my urethra

a, then into my bladder, he looked all around and then he checked the opening and then my prostrate. He said my prostrate looked good and that his conclusion was I had a kidney stone and passed it.

Now when he put the scope in, it just felt like there was something in my urethra and I was good to go. He said he would see me in a year. The last time I went to see him, he didn't do anything other than say I was fine.

I never had any twinges of pain, didn't have any trouble peeing.

I hope that the next appointment he will use the scope again and make sure I am working well.

This last visit, I told him about how I pee my pants all the time. All of a sudden, out comes my urine. He prescribed a drug to help control my bladder. It worked some, but the side effects were awful. Dry mouth and many other things happened. So I called and got another drug that was supposed to similar to the one I had. Well that didn't work either. Then I got another prescription and when I checked on the price, it was $230 for a month. I can't afford that, my insurance wouldn't pay for it. So I called again and talked to his nurse, she said we could look for another drug. I said I had a better idea. I said I could use a catheter to solve the problem. It would be cheaper and easier. The Dr. was not thrilled by my solution, but so far it seems to be working fine.

I find it feels a bit different, but my only worry now will be a UTI. I have my physical next week and I will ask my Dr. for some drugs to kill any UTI that may come my way.

We will see what happens in the future.

I like the feeling of the catheter in me. Seems nuts, I know. My wife doesn't care, so for now, catheter is in.

Only been catheterized twice and both times in the operating room under sedation. Woke up in my room and there they were. The leg bag was a real hassle.

I’ve been cathed three times in the hospital while awake. Note that I’d been wearing 30 Fr. catheters for 15 years by then. I woke up after surgery and noticed that I’d been cathed, with something tiny. I leaked, so I complained. They kept increasing the size until they got up to 28 Fr., still a tad undersized, but when I went for my second of two surgeries, the OR crew didn’t need to cath me. I was already cathed. After discharge, 3 weeks in the hospital, I went to rehab for 3 more weeks and got them to insert a 30 Fr. Into me (finally) which was still inside me when I went home. I still have fond memories of the insertions during rehab. She was a cutie with a good sense of humor who enjoyed what she was doing to me!

PS: And I loved what she was doing to me!!! She and I have met up since then. She us my catheter nurse, amount “other duties.”

The only time I was conscious while being catheterized was for some unexpected post-surgical complications. The process was brief but very unpleasant. Even though they try their best to numb you up by squirting some lidocaine jelly in you inserting the tube burns like crazy. Once it is in place you get used to it and taking it out while also unpleasant lasts but a few seconds.

As to your question regarding Men's Real Life Experiences of Being Catheterized. Yes, most recently I was admitted to a hospital for a urinary/bladder infection and unable to urinate. After an all-night antibiotic drip my bladder was very full and the doctor called for a nurse to catheterize me to release the pressure. So here I am lying there with my wife by my side and in walks this very attractive younger female nurse, probably 35 yo, with her bag of goodies. Without further ad, she tells me to lie still and raises my hospital gown and to access my man-part , sprays some antibiotic stuff on my man parts and tells me to "relax" while taking a firm grip of the organ and begins to slowly inserts this very long and thin plastic pipe into my penis. Process looked scarey but was almost painless. She continues telling me to relax, my wife is alternately staring at my man-hood in this woman's hand and my face; and me, I am lying still watching this attractive nurse doing her thing on my thing! Damned ,she opens the valve and drains my bladder and says "I have relieved you of a large amount of urine". She finishes by saying they willing he leaving catheteri in for several more days until the infection is gone. I was later scheduled for prostate reduction surgery and wore a catheter until the next step in the sequence took place.

I recall my catheterization after a surgery I had the prior day.

Looking back on this, it must have started after the surgery. During the recovery the nurse helped me to the bathroom, when I came out she asked if I was successful in voiding my bladder. I told her no. She said we would try again in a few minutes. The 2nd attempt was successful.

At home I don't recall much the day of the surgery, might have been the meds? The following day the Dr office called to check in on me. One answer to her question turned the phone call into an emergency. She asked if I was able to void after waking up that morning. Again my answer was no, but I didn't think it was a big deal. She told me to hang up the phone and get to the ER as quickly as possible.

Upon arrival at check in they were informed of my prior day surgery and they wisked me in instantly. I was placed in a make shift curtained 'room' in the hallway. The bed was against the wall. The nurse told me to take everything off from the waist down and she would be back. No drape, no sheet to cover with, I laid on the bed. When she returned with her supplies she opened the curtain but failed to close it. So people walking by could see me laying there.

She ended up having to move the bed away from the wall to work on that side. Again there were breaks in the curtains, on both sides. It was a busy hallway.

She squeezed some gel like fluid into my meatus, and pinched it closed for about 10 seconds. She told me this was round one. She moved around a bit organizing her tray of supplies. She then squeezed more of the gel into the shaft and then clamped the tip of my penis. She told me the first round was to numb the tip so she could use the clamp without hurting me.

She waited for that to work itself in, noticed the curtain was open and adjusted it. She removed the clamp and the gel started to ooze out, she kept wiping it up as it poured out. She inserted some lubrication and then the catheter. She inflated the balloon and attached the bag. I sat there for about a half hour, this time with a thin blanket over my lower half. The large bag was full.

She replaced it with a leg bag and gave me instructions on how to empty it. And I was released.

The first time I was catheterized was a few years ago in the hospital. I had kidney stones.

The procedure was performed during surgery under general anesthesia, so I didn't feel anything. I hadn't been informed about it beforehand.

After waking up in the recovery room, I realized something was there because I felt a burning sensation. I don't recall how long that lasted.

A few days later, two nurses came to remove the catheter. Deflating the balloon was fine, but pulling the catheter out in one swift motion was unpleasant.

It was somewhat painful and caused a burning sensation that lingered for a few days, especially when urinating.

A few weeks later, a catheter that had remained inside my body had to be removed using another catheter inserted into the urethra.

Despite the anesthesia (gel inserted into the urethra), it was unpleasant and painful, particularly when passing the bladder sphincter.

This was again followed by a burning sensation. The quick removal of the catheter once the procedure was finished was painless.

The same applied to the subsequent times I urinated.

I experienced nothing erotic or arousing during any of this. It was purely a medical procedure and, of course, related to my health.

In my teen years I catherized myself quite a few times with a what I guess to be a 20Fr colon tube. Open end one side eyelet. I used vasoline for lubrication. I don't remember any real pain doing it, but urination for about 12 hours sure was painful!. How I never got an infection I'll never know.

Through adulthood I cathed myself several times when ever I could get my hands on a catheter. By then I knew enough to be afraid I could get an infection.

Forward to three years ago. I started having some blood in my urine and constant UTIs.I also noticed a very small lesion on the head of my penis. My PCP made an appointment with a urologist.

At the urologist appointment, he suspected penile cancer. Sent me for a CT scan with and without contrast. And scheduled me for a hospital cystiscopey and a biopsy under anesthesia.

After the cystiscopey and biopsy I was released with a 20Fr catheter and leg bag for three days. Monday morning his Nirse Practichenr, a young lady, removed the catheter which also had the dressing for the biopsy. She was so good at removing the catheter that I didn't even realize it was out. I then went home drank a lot of water and had no issue or pain passing urin.

The biopsy was positive for cancer and I was scheduled for surgery at a major cancer center. They performed a partial Penectomy, which in my case left no pins, only the stump or internal part of the penis. They also did a Perinial urethostomy. Brought the urethra down to an opening behind the testicals. Came home the next day with a catheter.

Again no problem with the catheter or pain from the pienctomy. But the surgery between the legs was very painful and had complications with stitches coming loose.

Next the pathology came back stage 3 cancer and the doctor talked me into removing inguinal lyphnodes for testing.

5 weeks after the pinectomy I was scheduled for surgery and removal of the catheter the next day after surgery

I had the Robatically assisted 8.5 hour surgery and the next day the nurse removed the catheter. Easy removal no pain . Again I drank a bunch of water and had some small urin flow but nothing like normal.

That night I couldn't pass any urin and was getting a bit uncomfortable. I called the nurse. Naturally she said we need to catherize you but I have never catherized a person with a urostomy. I'm going to get the emergency urologist to do it.

About a half hour later the doctor and nurse came in. The doctor explained that he was going to catherize me with a 20Fr folly catheter and while it's in they would flush out my bladder incase there were any blood clots blocking the flow. If not they would remove the catheter and see what happens.

They got things ready and he explained the procedure to the young nurse. He did the caterization. This was the first time someone cathed me while I was awake. The doctor put it in quickly with no numbing gell and absolutely no pain. The only thing was the strange almost orgasmic feeling when it went through my swollen prostate. It was a memorable feeling. I'm sure I winced a bit but there wasn't any pain. He then used a large syringe to push saline into my bladder then pumped it in an out with the syringe he filled me back up close to full before allowing it all to drain. Everything was clear so he removed the catheter. I finally got a decent bit of sleep.

The next day was peeing a little bit every hour. I was miserable. They were checking me often with ultrasound for retention, I wss constantly retaining 40ML or more. That night I called the nurse around 11PM they work 12 hour shifts 6PM to 6AM the same nurse was on duty. I asked her if she could catherize me so that I could get some sleep.

She came back in with a 14Fr Streight catheter and drained me. Again total relief.

The next day they released me and sent me home with a bunch of streight catheter kits and other supplies. It turned out the Urostomy failed and I now urinate through my stump which they were trying to avoid. That has some hygiene issues but that is easily handled.

After about 6 months post surgery my flow started to slow. Not wanting to have more surgery, my PCP an old school get it done doctor, recommend self cathing once a day with a larger catheter to keep the scar tissue open. So for the past couple years that's what I do almost daily. No problems no pain just a bit of time out of my day.

I was catheterised aged four (1969) as part of a VCUG after a full day of X-rays with radioactive dye.

The whole experience was traumatic, having to undress several times, urinate on an X-ray table and be filled via a catheter.

A week or two before I had my foreskin forcibly retracted in preparation.

I was given no warning about the catheterisation or foreskin retraction, but I was only four.

I have been catherized several times always post surgery due to anesthesia and/or location of surgery of which 3 were hip surgeries, one knee surgery, and one back surgery. All of them happened while on pain meds so I cannot say if it would have been painful, but the first 2 were in the ER after being sent home and being unable to urinate later that day or evening. One thing I stress is that if your bladder becomes over full and you cannot go you must leave the catheter in for 7 days or you will get a weak bladder.

The first one was by a male nurse about 30 years old in an ER but it didn't go in that easily, then a woman nurse the second time also in the ER and she used urojet to inject lidocaine and lubricant and held my penis for several minutes to keep it from leaking out which was slightly embarrassing. After those 2 incidents the post op staff was better at making sure I could urinate at least once before discharge and if not or if I wasn't going enough they put in a Foley so I wouldn't have to come back. All 3 times it was a different female nurse and every time was similar except the last one the nurse looked like she was still in high school and I was in my 60s so it was a little challenging to say the least and embarrassing. I usually took them out at home with the syringe they provided.

When in hospital a catheter was inserted during an operation.

For some reason it didn’t work properly, so had to be removed and reinserted.

This was done by a female nurse.

She obviously had to hold my penis with one hand whilst inserting the catheter with the other.

She did apologise for having to do it.

It didn’t cause me any embarrassment.

@buttdial Thanks for the kind words. Actually the penectomy was not painful. I only had extra strength Tylenol and Alebve for a few days. The worst pain was from the initial biopsy, that lasted just a few days.

My regret is allowing the lyphnode direction. That ruined my legs. Especially the left leg. I have a lot of numbness and lyphodema swelling in the foot and inner thigh area. I was 74 at the time and my wife had lost interest in sex after menopause.

I had been satisfying myself for years and still am able to although not as often and it takes a differant technique.

Other than that things are much the same. The worst thing is cancer is always on your mind. Will it raise its ugly head somewhere else.

So far to my knoledge three years cancer free. It's been a good life, I'll not complain.

They installed a Foley in the OR for my hernia repair, but I was unconscious and likewise when they removed it. I think they handled me a little roughly because afterwards there was a little blood and it burned when I peed. The recovery nurse wanted me to pee before I left but I couldn't because I had been cathed in the Or and she apparently did not know that. She threatened to cath me again but an ultrasound revealed that my bladder was empty and she let me go. I would like to experience a catheter but the circumstances were not opportune. I have inserted a sterile glass thermometer into my urethra and it felt good.
