My first experience of being catherized was when I was in hospital.I wasn't told anything a nurse who I think was a philipino just came to my bed opened a packet and proceeded to lube the tube and squirt lube down my urethrer. She inserted the tube then said "i need a bigger one" and off she went.She came back with another one then stuck the tube down my penis and squezzed a small bulb which inflated it a little . She gave a gentle tug on it to make sure it was secure then attached it to a bag which hung from a stand below bed level..I was informed this was to measure the amount of fluid I peed each day.I had no control over peeing, it just came out and ran into the bag. I had this in for a couple of days then they took it away .I never found out anything about what happened to it.I think somehow they measure it but don't know how.

The bag is graduated so they can see how much. I had major surgery and they put the cath in after they knocked me out by sticking a needle in my neck. I did have Philipino nurses as well, I guess the money is better here.

At Mayo Clinic they have a catheter team of catheter technicians who come around every four or five hours to intermittently drain any patient’s urine who are unable to urinate. They frown on Foley catheters due to their cause of high infection rates. They have men techs cath the men, and women techs for the ladies. Foleys when administered are inserted by either sex of nurses.

I would often not even awaken during my early morning catheterizations. During the day we would discuss sports, hunting and crazy wives and girlfriends. It was as if we were having a beer instead of having a man disinfect my pubic are and thread a tube into my penis. Like the saying goes, “It’s only weird the first time.” It did take a while to get used to having another man pee for me.

I was knocked out before they put the Cath in during my one (and only) surgery. Taking it out was no big deal - slight burning sensation. They weren't concerned about the volume of pee that came out - just didn't want me getting up to pee with a lot of drugs in me.

My wife was catheterized and they pumped (IV) a lot of fluids in her to keep her BP and blood flow up. They monitored the amount going in versus the amount going out. If I recall correctly, they charted the amount in the collection bag on a regular basis. The Doc said that they were filling her up with lots of saline - but her kidneys were working extremely well and it was passing through pretty fast.

I'd like to experience the prostate stimulation I've read that some men enjoy when a catheter slides past your prostate, but I guess not everyone feels that or enjoys it. But I'm still too concerned about UTI's to probably ever do it unless it becomes a necessity. Masturbation and orgasm while holding a latex catheter in my penis would also be something I'd like to try if not for the UTI risk. And doing it while holding a large enema would be even better, especially while restrained to enhance the submissiveness to both the catheter and enema.

I have catheterized myself a number of times. I have not had any pain either inserting or withdrawing the catheter. The first couple of times there was some discomfort when I peed, but after those couple of times, I have not had any problem at all.

I enjoy the feeling of a catheter, keeps me from having to make so many trips to the bathroom and since my bladder is active, the trips are frequent. My urologist suggested two different drugs to help stop my over active bladder, but the side effects of the drugs were worse than the trips to the bathroom. I wish I could use a catheter more and stop the frequent trips, but he doesn't see that as a solution.

I also find that I get very hard when I insert a catheter, I stay hard for a long time and then I go back to normal. It is a great feeling since I am an old man. It is nice to be rock hard for a few minutes. That happens also when I have an enema and I get really full of water, but not as readily as when I insert a catheter. I love the feeling of the catheter in my penis.

I find it is also nice to not have to worry about the trips to the toilet. When you are ready, you just drain the bag and go on. Would be nice to use overnight. A whole nights sleep without having to get up and head to the toilet.

About 2 years ago, I had some blood in my urine, I told my Dr. and he ordered a Cat scan. They were looking for a kidney stone. I think I passed it before the Cat scan. That was a different experience. No kidney stones were found. An appointment with an urologist was made.

I got to his office and of course they wanted a sample of urine. Didn't have to be a clean catch one so I went off to the rest room to pee in a cup and put my name on it. They found nothing in my urine.

I had to repeat my story to the nurse, another person and then finally the Dr. I had repeated this story to my family Dr. a couple weeks before.

After listening to my story, I was told to take my pants off and underwear. The Dr. came back in and gave me a pill to take, we went to a low exam table, I took my penis and put some lube in it, then got our a scope and he told me he was going to look inside my bladder and check to make sure everything was A-OK. In went the scope, we looked on the monitor and you could see my urethra

a, then into my bladder, he looked all around and then he checked the opening and then my prostrate. He said my prostrate looked good and that his conclusion was I had a kidney stone and passed it.

Now when he put the scope in, it just felt like there was something in my urethra and I was good to go. He said he would see me in a year. The last time I went to see him, he didn't do anything other than say I was fine.

I never had any twinges of pain, didn't have any trouble peeing.

I hope that the next appointment he will use the scope again and make sure I am working well.

This last visit, I told him about how I pee my pants all the time. All of a sudden, out comes my urine. He prescribed a drug to help control my bladder. It worked some, but the side effects were awful. Dry mouth and many other things happened. So I called and got another drug that was supposed to similar to the one I had. Well that didn't work either. Then I got another prescription and when I checked on the price, it was $230 for a month. I can't afford that, my insurance wouldn't pay for it. So I called again and talked to his nurse, she said we could look for another drug. I said I had a better idea. I said I could use a catheter to solve the problem. It would be cheaper and easier. The Dr. was not thrilled by my solution, but so far it seems to be working fine.

I find it feels a bit different, but my only worry now will be a UTI. I have my physical next week and I will ask my Dr. for some drugs to kill any UTI that may come my way.

We will see what happens in the future.

I like the feeling of the catheter in me. Seems nuts, I know. My wife doesn't care, so for now, catheter is in.

Only been catheterized twice and both times in the operating room under sedation. Woke up in my room and there they were. The leg bag was a real hassle.

I’ve been cathed three times in the hospital while awake. Note that I’d been wearing 30 Fr. catheters for 15 years by then. I woke up after surgery and noticed that I’d been cathed, with something tiny. I leaked, so I complained. They kept increasing the size until they got up to 28 Fr., still a tad undersized, but when I went for my second of two surgeries, the OR crew didn’t need to cath me. I was already cathed. After discharge, 3 weeks in the hospital, I went to rehab for 3 more weeks and got them to insert a 30 Fr. Into me (finally) which was still inside me when I went home. I still have fond memories of the insertions during rehab. She was a cutie with a good sense of humor who enjoyed what she was doing to me!

PS: And I loved what she was doing to me!!! She and I have met up since then. She us my catheter nurse, amount “other duties.”

The only time I was conscious while being catheterized was for some unexpected post-surgical complications. The process was brief but very unpleasant. Even though they try their best to numb you up by squirting some lidocaine jelly in you inserting the tube burns like crazy. Once it is in place you get used to it and taking it out while also unpleasant lasts but a few seconds.

As to your question regarding Men's Real Life Experiences of Being Catheterized. Yes, most recently I was admitted to a hospital for a urinary/bladder infection and unable to urinate. After an all-night antibiotic drip my bladder was very full and the doctor called for a nurse to catheterize me to release the pressure. So here I am lying there with my wife by my side and in walks this very attractive younger female nurse, probably 35 yo, with her bag of goodies. Without further ad, she tells me to lie still and raises my hospital gown and to access my man-part , sprays some antibiotic stuff on my man parts and tells me to "relax" while taking a firm grip of the organ and begins to slowly inserts this very long and thin plastic pipe into my penis. Process looked scarey but was almost painless. She continues telling me to relax, my wife is alternately staring at my man-hood in this woman's hand and my face; and me, I am lying still watching this attractive nurse doing her thing on my thing! Damned ,she opens the valve and drains my bladder and says "I have relieved you of a large amount of urine". She finishes by saying they willing he leaving catheteri in for several more days until the infection is gone. I was later scheduled for prostate reduction surgery and wore a catheter until the next step in the sequence took place.
