My mom really didn’t try to hide anything from my sister and I. Her douche syringe was always out in the bathroom.
Growing up in the fifties, our grandma, mom, and two young aunts were as open about enemas and douching as your mom was. Enemas and douching were commonplace in that era, just a part of daily life, and no one gave it a second thought.
When mom's younger sisters were preteens, grandma taught them person hygiene, along with how to take care of and give children enemas. I was six, and the older girl twelve, when that happened. Afterwards, the girls were given responsibility for our evening bath, including enemas. So, whenever grandma told the girls to give us a couple of enemas during our evening bath, they were included too. Consequently, we not only saw the girls give our siblings enemas, but each other as well. During the six years the girls were responsible for our evening bath. Being more like siblings than aunts, they taught us how to take care of ourselves. Showing us how to administer enemas to ourselves and each other. Along with showing our sister how to douche standing in the shower.
As for mom, we saw her douche occasionally, if we happened to need to use the bathroom after going to bed. But never saw her give herself, or someone else giving her an enema. However, we did overhear grandma giving her an enema a few times. And quickly realized, that unlike her sisters, she hated getting an enema. As for our father, we never saw or heard him getting an enema, even from someone else.
