Perfect 10 - Scenario

Perfect 10 Examination Scenario

This would be my ideal exam environment for members of our group. Picture a multi-tiered amphitheater. There is a demonstration table, overhead smart board with cam for closeup examination, full video for streaming to ancillary facilities. A podium off to the side. In the corner an assembled skeleton. Likewise an examination table with genu (knee) holding stirrups. Room is the major medical school lecture hall.

The personae dramatis include:

Presenter - either a resident physician, interne, or senior student

Wrangler - maintains discipline and order

Patient - someone who is articulate, loves to play to the crowd, totally uninhibited - willing to be seen by all present naked

Gallery - everyone who comes into the amphitheater

Man On The Spot - Whether male or female the M.O.T.S. is asked to step down from the gallery - the presenter asks that they interview, examine, answer questions from the presenter, the attending or (with permission of either) from the gallery

Attending - experienced physician, a faculty member who acts to bring it all together giving his insight, historical anecdotes, tricks of the trade (sort of a House)

(All this is done in a chatroom)

The group appears at the appointed hour (advertised both here in Erotic Clinic and other appropriate venues). Ask folks come in to the room - roles are assigned. The patient with cam is pre-selected and prepped in terms of how to act. The class begins with the wrangler calling everyone to order - explaining proper behavior. Presenter introduces the patient, the attending, thanks the wrangler and tells the patient to strip down to the nude. Presenter calls a student down from the gallery and they take a medical history - the patient answering as best they can. Once completed the Presenter asks for questions or comments - everyone is given a chance. Now another student is asked to come down and starts a physical examination. Again the same routine. If something is missed or forgotten another student may come down - and on it goes.

Wouldn't this be an interesting way of engaging the group, learning from each other etc Friends again - skills learned!

Well this is my idea - anyone want to pick up the "ball" and run with it?

DrLaennec ClinicalUSMLE (Yahoo chat) or DrLaennec (Skype) always glad to chat with others

Another splendid and well thought out suggestion from DrLaennec - karma to him. I love the idea of a "multi-tiered amphitheater", like the operating rooms found in teaching hospitals a century or two ago (surgery as a spectator sport?). Next month I am hoping to visit the Old Operating Theater which has been preserved in London, England. Does anyone know of any other surviving examples?

As DrLaennec suggests, all this could be done in a chat room, with liberal use of imagination, but a real live performance would be much more exciting!

I agree with DrLaennec and Woodpecker, what an excellent idea. I know that there are video conference rooms around the world with all of the proper equipment that can be rented out. In reality, this should not be too difficult to really set up.

Another karma point for DrLaennec, what an honor to have him on this board.

Woodpecker- I'm not sure if it's open to the public, Dr. Laennec would know, but the "ether dome" at Mass. General in Boston is truly a sight to behold. My uncle took me there many years ago. Today it means a lot more to me than it did then but even this jaded college was impressed.

Play On!

A more easily workable possibility might be to have a virtual medical environment. I know of a chat portal called The Palace where members can create their own virtual rooms. Many examples of these can be found at this link to their gallery: http://www.palaceplanet.net/forum/gallery/index.php?title=donated-roomart&c=2&page=4

Those active in the chat are able to appear and interact through animated avatars that can be customized to their liking. The thing is I don't have any experience with the site, and have no idea what the physical motion capabilities are that one would have with the avatars.

So if anyone reading this is familiar with this site or one similar, please let us know if something like this has real potential for our purposes or not.
