Suppositories in the hospital?

I've used suppositories at least once a week since my college years because of constipation, but I've always inserted it myself. The one time someone else inserted it was coming out of surgery over a decade ago. I was throwing up violently from the anesthesia, and after telling me she was going to give me a suppository for the nausea, a nurse turned over on my side and exposed my entire lower half. She then pushed it in deep (her entire middle finger was in me) and wiggled her finger while it was in there for a few seconds, like she was trying to get it further in. I found it *stimulating* but embarrassing.

It feels very different and weird when someone else is doing the inserting. Has anyone else gotten a suppository in a hospital setting before?

The digital stimulation with suppository insertion is a more effective way of initiating a bowel movement. I'm sure many of the older nurses understand that. Many older texts encouraged digital stimulation before attempting other methods. This was especially true for infants and children.

I have had a suppository in a hospital before. It was when I was induced to have my baby. I was in labor for 3 days before they did a C-Section, around the second day/night I started to get a fever and it kept going up.

So right before I was completely "relaxed" they gave me a Tylenol suppository. I rolled over to my left side and I felt the nurse lift up my gown (to expose my entire backside, and half way up to my head) and she said something to the effect "you're going to feel me now" and when she said that I felt her separate my cheeks and insert one of her larger than normal size fingers into me. She held into me for a couple of minutes and then pulled out of me and lowered my gown and rolled me over, then she left.

My husband at the time was right beside me and when she put the suppository into me, he asked me if I was alright. Not sure why he asked me that 😉

Do they train nurses to push the suppository as far up the rectum as possible? I insert bisacodyl suppositories as far as I can reach to get a stronger effect, but I was wondering if that was the case for all suppositories, since there's a chance that stool higher up in the rectum could hinder the absorption of a medication. Are nurses trained to use their middle finger to do it? I usually use my middle finger for better reach (I have stubby fingers), but it seems either suggestive or distasteful, to put it mildly, for a total stranger to literally give you the finger! 😁

It'd be great to hear some of your experiences giving enemas and suppositories working in a hospital. Are bag enemas still used in hospitals these days, or are they all fleets now?

How do patients generally react when you tell them you have to give them an enema or suppository? I bet there've been some pretty hilarious reactions...

I received a suppository following surgery as well, although I was not suffering from nausea at the time. I recall that I was leaning over the bed while standing up at the time. My wife was in the room as well. As the nurse was having her way with my bare backside, I looked over my shoulder and asked "does this mean that we are going steady now?". She replied "naw were just fooling around". We all had a good laugh on that.

My earliest experience was one given to me by my aunt when I was about ten. I will describe that in greater detail another time.

I was in the hospital for surgery about 20 years ago, and was checked into the hospital the night before. Early the next morning, a nurse came in an told me I would be getting a sedative suppository inserted. Well yes, I was imbarrassed but it was doctors orders. The suppository turned out to be Thorazine, a power sedative usually given to mental patients in mental hospitals. I could feel it taking effect in about 25 minutes after she inserted the thing, well up into my rectum. She used a rubber glove on her hand and a good amount of KY jelley. I remember it gave off a warming sensation within a couple of minutes after insertion. About 35 minutes later, I was off in la la land. Wow, it was a powerfull suppository. I understand that a person can get them on overseas pharmacies if one looks hard enough. Im sure going to try. Have fun.

Years ago when I was in the hospital I got a suppository after several days of not being able to go. But, it was given by my wife as the nurse didn't want to insert it. Go figure!!!

I have had suppositories injected a couple of times after surgery. It was because of constipation from the pain meds. I could tell the one time the young nurse was more emparssed about it then I was. Hell I was turned on by it. I love butts 😎

I was in the hospital for an extended period many years ago. I became constipated and the doctor ordered a suppository. As I recall the nurse lubricated her index finger, but not the suppository, and pushed the suppository up as far as possible. I started cramping about 15 minutes later, but I was so constipated I couldn't poop very much (I was almost impacted I think). It was pretty uncomfortable, cramping and not being able to have a bowel movement.

The nurse went back to the doctor and ended up giving me a warm water enema using about a quart of water. I was still cramping from the suppository when she gave me the enema, and it was pretty uncomfortable. She told me to try and hold the enema for a few minutes, but I was only able to wait a minute or two before I had to go. The enema did relieve my constipation however.

I have had suppositories inserted up my bum while in hospital and I had a sever bout of the stomach flu and was vomiting.

I have only had one suppository in the hospital. I had a C-Section and Nurse Ratchett decided that it was time I had a BM. The day nurse was ok with my not having an immediate BM, but she who plays by the rules, was not ok with it. She didn't like that my lower abdomen wasn't making enough gurgling sounds.

She then told me she would give me something to help. Naive me thought she meant something like Maylox. She came in with a rubber glove an a cylinder in her hand. Then, she had me lean on my side as best as I could. The suppository was long, but slender (and may I add very powerful). On top of this, she made sure it was in as far as possible. I was extra gumpy and she stuck around to make sure that I didn't go to the bathroom before it had melted.

I had one given to me in the hospital when i was delivering my baby. i got a fever in the middle of childbirth and i could not push the baby any more, because i was trembling from the fever. the nurse gave me some kind of suppository that got the fever down within a few minutes.

I had gotten one in the hospital once! I had surgery and was very constipated. Then the nurse came up with me on my side and inserted one while leaving her finger in there to make sure it was working!

I got one when I was in hospital from a nurse. I'm sorry, that I was too young (I was 6 yo), but it was ... mmh .. interesting ! I was constipated after a surgery, a few days before I'd got my first enema from the same nurse...

I received a suppository once in the hospital after back surgery. I hadn't gone in 5 days so the nurse arrived one night and informed me I was getting one. She rolled me on my left side and along with a little lube pushed a suppository deep inside. I was on a lot of pain meds from the surgery so the feeling wasn't quite the same as it would normally be. It was exciting though!

When aged about five years old became very constipated after two days had passed the doctor was called in to see me at home he ordered the district nurse to call and give soap and water enema while sat on potty I cried a little all that got was a sharp smack on my bare bottom from my mother

I had a suppo the day after surgery 3 years ago this month. Then another one the day I was discharged. It was a female nurse both times who administered it. I was not constipated nor did I ask for one. The doctor ordered it. The nurse asked me to roll over on my left side, she lifted my gown but did not bare anymore than she had to. I felt her separate my cheeks and push it in. It felt strange but not painful and yes, it worked, both times. I guess it was better (and cheaper) than getting an enema.

My experience was very much like Mare 10's. 1 year ago I had surgery and a female nurse administered the suppository to be sure I had a movement before I was discharged. She had me roll to my left and did a very high insertion.

I had my appendix taken out in my youth. Because of the pain after surgery, I asked the nurse for medication, but she didn't give me a suppository. She asked my to turn on my side and gave me a shot in the bottom that hurt a lot. Then she told me that she could have given me a suppository, but that it doesn't work as long as a shot, so I would have to have the next one after six hours.

I still regret that she didn't giv me the suppository.

I like to insert 2 glycerin supps and 2 dulcolax supps then diaper up and read this site while awaiting the stronger and stronger urge which I know will win out eventually.

Yes, 2 glycerin and 2 bisacodyl are fun. I also like to use a bunch of glycerin or a very large one. I like to feel stimulation throughout my rectum and bowels.

When I was young between ages of 9 to about 14 I was in and out of hospitals a lot for various reasons mostly childhood things, but I always remembered that a nurse would come around at night and say "If you don't go to sleep soon I'm going to have to give you something" I learned that, that meant she was going to give me a suppository, so I would do my best to stay awake untill she came around again. Then this usually nice lookin' Nurse would say, "Ok turn on your side and I'm going to give this to you to help you sleep" then I would feel her gloved finger go very deep into me pushing the suppository in as far as she could push it. Her finger felt large to me, because I was young but I will always remember how good it felt. I knew nothing about a prostate gland or anything else except I wished she would have made the insertion last 30 minutes. I learned at a very early age how to get this wonderful feeling "Give you Something" treatment. Wish I could find a nurse that would put me to sleep every night in this way, I'd marry her tomorrow.

I have received two dulcolax after an ERCP procedure in hospital. The nurse came in and said that she had to give me suppositories. I had to roll over on the side. She put on gloves and pulled down my panties. Then she unpacked the first suppository and spread my butt cheecks. Afterwards she pushed the suppository into my butt including her entire finger. I could really feel this cold deep in my butt. Same procedure for the second one.

After she administered the suppositories I was really exited 😄 .

In the early sixtys i was in hospital with numonia and some of the meds would make you constapated so when the nurses took the temps of the children in the ward this was done by rectal temps they would check to see who needed a supp they checked by inserting a lubed finger up the but as thy lubed for the thermometer who ever had a blocage the nurses would tell the ward sister who would ask the doc to prescribe the nesesary meds eg supp or enemasin one stay alone must have had supp inserted at least 12 times in my three month stay in hospital plus too enemas the old fashund wau funnel and tube with soapy water screens wernt used much back then on childrens wardsso we could see who was geting supps and tems taken but they would put a screen around the bed of some one gettig a enema not that one screen would stop evry one from seeing it was only there too stop any one passing the ward from seeing the boys and girls in the ward could see every thing think thats whst realy turned me on to enemas and supps was that experiance

I was once with my friend who was to undergo a surgery the next day .She had a condition known as " fissure anale". She was very nervous about the procedure since it hey had to operate on her in the most private part ; her anus. The night before the operation she asked me to stay with her and not to leave.Being my best friend I couldn't leave her alone .At around 8 , the night nurse came and told her that she has to prepare her.First she will shave her.I started to move out but my friend called and told me to stay.The nurse told her to lay on her back and to spread her legs .i started to be excited.It was like a dream come true.My friend spread her legs and the nurse started to sve her vagina then she moved to her anus.The nurse told my friend to kneel on the bed because it is easier for her her to shave her anus.After she was done ,she told her that she is going to give her a suppository before her enema......

When I was a little child, I was always sick, I had a weak immunity and used to catch all the world's viruses, so I had always suppository prescription which I hated so much! all my suppositories (which were many) were forced. I always fought them with all my forces but could never excape, mainly because there were many persons involved in all the procedure to hold me and my mom to insert it.

I had to go many times to the hospital as well. I remember getting so much suppositories forced and shots! The most one I remember is when I had about 7 years and a nice young nusrse enters my room. she told me that she has to give me a suppository, I think it was a glycerin supp. Well of course my answer was No way! That nurse was so nice, so she told me that she will leave the supp next to me, and when I feel ready I can call her so she can insert it, but she has to do it. Well hours passed and I didn't call her so that nice nurse turned suddenly into a very severe one, I can't delay it anymore, she has to give it to me right now! So as I was still refusing, she asked for help, and two strong men nurses and a young nurse(i think she was a still a student) entered. They turned me on my stomach, and pulled down my panties, I was still screaming and fighting with all the energy left, but those men had strong hands and could hold me so hard. I remember that stupid nurse student standing in front of me singing with a doll trying to make me feel better during the insertion. In fact she was making me feel more nervous with her smile and dance moves with the doll. Well I can't remember anything but me creaming because I felt the suppository entering my butt. Finally they left me and I was so tired after the big battle I had to do. And then the nurse who inserted the suppository looked at me with a big smile and said "see? it doesn't hurt? You shouldn't do all this!" well in fact it hurt me but I didn't reply because I was so tired.

That was my experience! I had forced suppositories until the age of 10. then at 12 my mom suggested to start inserting them on my own, and since then, they are not scary anymore, but yet not so pleasent either.

When I was 10 I had to go to hospital to have my appendix out and one of the pre-op procedures was I had to receive a suppository. I was in bed when a Nurse entered the ward and walked up to me holding a small s/s bowl she placed it down on the bedside table and pulled the blankets off me then instructed me to lie on my side and drew my legs up till my knees almost touched my chest. As I was wearing nothing but a Hospital gown I felt rather open and exposed." Now Just relax I am going to insert a suppository in your Bottom". she inserted the thing all the way to the knuckle I squirmed until she withdrew her finger. "There now I want you to hold it in for half an hour then you can go to the toilet " she left the room and I was left to endure the discomfort. Half an hour later I jumped out of the bed and ran to the toilet holding my cheeks together.

That was the first an only time I had one in hospital.

I was given what I believe were chloral hydrate suppositories when I was hospitalized in '69 for the better part of a week (was also offered rectal temps, but alas, I declined them).
