Genital Play General Sterile advice?

What are most members opinion on the level of sterilization when it comes to gynecological procedures?

The obvious general guidelines come to mind

1) Use latex gloves

2) Use sterilized equipment - does the overall genital area need to be disinfected prior to any medical play? Alcohol wipe, etc?

3) What about other guidelines?

I am not a doctor, but I would think you want to be sure any foreign objects/equipment have been sterilized. And, I know you have to be careful not to insert anything into a vagina right after it has been in an anus without thoroughly cleaning it.

NB: In the past I have stated that everything should be sterile, but this question goes into specifically what is needed in certain instances, so my responses may be different from what I have said before. All things being equal, sterile would be best, but not always necessary.

The level of sterilization for gynecological procedures varies greatly depending on what you are doing.

If you are using the instruments on only one person, and you are fluid bonded, you do not need sterilized instruments when inserting anything into the vagina. You do not need latex gloves either, but your hands, like your penis should be washed prior to entering. (You don't use condoms or latex gloves when you finger your SO, do you?) The vulva should be washed well with soap and water.

Insertion of instruments into the urethra is another matter. If you are using them on only one person, those don't need to be sterile either, but should be what is considered "surgically clean."

Anything that has been in the rectum should be scrupulously cleaned (sterile is better) before insertion into the vagina.

Once the instruments are used in more than one person, they must be sterilized to prevent spread of infection. You don't want to transmit hepatitis or other serious infection, do you?

DO NOT INSERT ANYTHING THROUGH THE CERVIX REGARDLESS OF ITS STERILITY--YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. To paraphrase an old sage, Just because you think you know the tricks of the trade, that doesn't mean you know the trade.

Note that it is incredibly difficult to sterilize normal (non medical) objects. Most reusable medical tools and objects are designed specifically so that they can be sterilized either chemically or by steam heating with an autoclave. If you try this on non medical objects they tend to melt, corrode or, in the case of vibrators, just stop working. The best thing to do is to use disposable medical "toys" for genital play and then only immediately after taking them from the protective wrapping.

I think you should take as many precautions as are reasonable under the circumstances. Sterile? NOTHING is ever perfectly & totally sterile. Even if autoclaved, as soon as you take it out into the air, some new "bugs" land on it. Scientists argue how many bacteria or virus particles can be killed by the human immune system before you contract various diseases. Who sterilizes a man's penis? What woman sterilizes everything with which she touches her genitals? Is toilet paper sterile?

Agree, sterilization is a good idea.

I am a germaphobe so it is very hard for me to focus or stay sane without knowing something haven’t been sterilized. So I think doctor should take the same measures of cleanliness as a real medical professional. So it the exam can be safe, clean, and realistic.

I mostly use sterile packed single-use metal & plastic speculums, and of course sterile packed single use catheters and sounds. They are good quality medical instruments from a proper medical supplier, they are not sex toys. The price of a speculum in the overall cost of the play exam appointment is minimal, and an autoclave is a rather expensive outlay for a play doctor. A pressure cooker can be used to achieve the same result I believe but personally I can't be bothered with all that and would rather use new each time.

The vagina is not sterile, the penis is not sterile, the vibrator is not sterile...But a sterile packed or new speculum gives the woman the confidence that it hasn't been in another woman's vagina and not cleaned properly...And hopefully shows that the play doctor is a responsible person.

As a play doc, I use disposable products whenever possible. My concern for cleanliness and sterility when necessary has prevented me from doing any catheterization. That is a procedure that demands a sterile environment to avoid the possibility of infection.
