Japanese rope bondage - anyone know much about this?

I learned the basics from a woman who goes by Juliet Heart. Still working on getting things ready to play with suspension.

I've been looking for resources on rope bondage. Not much success. Most of the "educational" items are really more of poorly done bondage porn.

Have tried shibari breast bondage on wife with good results Anyone else experienced this.

I have been "in" Shibari rope bondage before as a demo bottom for Artemis from Atlanta and it was an excellent experience! i loved the feeling of the rope and she's an excellent rigger! Your wife is lucky! i have to go to the next state and have an appointment for that sort of thing...lol.

Be sure to clean your ropes thoroughly especially when you use them on more than one subject.

Note: when I tie a woman, I like the bottom knot to be a little lower down. It's just so much more annoying to have the knot's pressure tightly against the clit. 😁

Have a look for esinem, he's about to release some tutorial DVD's, he also sells rope. I've tried some of his hemp rope and it's very good.

Both Knotty boys books are good and if you do a search online you can find videos of tying the knots that they released

I've never done this, but ive been curious for years. My question is, what does it feel like? Is it as erotic as having your wrists and ankles bound? I imagine it would be hard to breathe. Does the suspension hurt? Can anyone tell me what it's like? I want to try, so I want to know if it's fun.

It looks really erotic, though I don't know how comfortable it is for long periods. Most people don't have this level of skill though, I guess you'd have to practise on a sack of potatoes for a while.

@Joanne Shibari is as comfortable as the participants allow. There is a duty of care from both parties regarding the bondage. The rigger should always be checking for muscle weakness, limb coldness, pins and needles - all clear signs that the tie needs to be changed, and move on to a more comfortable situation. The bunny should be giving feedback to teh rigger regarding any pain and discomfort, and nerve pain.

As a general rule of thumb, you don't want to be considering suspending someone without a good level of skill, and a major degree of safety - just think of the worst case.......

As for the basics of shibari, it's very easy - it's a question of learning 2 main knots and that's it. It's what you do with them after that, that makes things look hard.

Now how do you go about learning? I would advise looking at other fet sites (Fetlife, Kink Acadamy and more) and joining the groups, watching teh videos, joining rope workshops. Practice what you learn, and enjoy yourselves.

I myself am going to 2 Rope Peer Workshops in the UK this month, both within 25 miles of home. Get in touch with your BDSM community, and you never know what's happening on your doorstep!

To truly get into Shibari is very difficult!!! I tried to learn it for so long but I never got used to it!! and a Japanese Domme was trying to teach me!!

I do love it but it does take a lot of practice to get right i am working on new knots all the time

This is no five min thing a good tie can take any thing from 10 mins to an hour odd ,

I’ve no personal experience (sadly) but whenever I’ve seen a Shibari scene photo, it coveys almost an art form:

beautiful with touches of eroticism leaving to the imagination what’s going to be suffered by the helpless girl.

It looks amazing, especially the suspensions. I would like to combine this with yoga - to either tie, or be tied!

My husband likes to take out a 100 foot rope, make a harness, tie me up and suspend me once in a while. We have hooks in our bedroom ceiling.

With our older daughter being a junior in college and the younger one being a senior in high school, we have the house alone to ourselves more often so we can indulge more often than we used to.

A well-done tie compliments the female body. The symmetry, patterns, and way the rope accentuates the curves of the buttocks, or the breast is truly art.

While I enjoy seeing a woman tied, and have taken up to 15 minutes to put her into a pretty, or secure bondage, I have not had the patience to study nor execute a shibari scene.

Mostly I enjoy the position for the vulnerability that it exposes in the woman (not necessarily legs spread, but the underside of the arm makes a woman look - and feel - more exposed).

I've been to one or 2 demos on ropes. Some at the NELA (New England Leather Assoc) meetings at a hotel. One thing that was emphasized, was DO NOT SUSPEND anyone, unless you have extensive experience, have capable safety scissors handy, and preferably have an assistant who can help quickly and safely take someone back down.

For me, the woman is tied so I can avail myself to her tender areas - tease, mild torture, flog, and stimulate to a wonderful orgasm where she is "forced" to absolutely let go.

I first tried rope bondage very recently. Before that I thought that it wouldn't be my thing. How wrong I was! I can be very restrictive yet comfortable and give all sorts of nasty & nice pressure.

Now that was very basic, I can only imagine proper Shibari to be at a very different level.

I am a very visual person. The look of a well tied woman is something that really gets me going. I am blessed to have a GF who also loves rope.

One thing that irks me, is that everyone mentions the Two Knotty Boys in the same breath as shibari. What TKB do is a very western style of rope, that uses knots to embellish their tying skill, shibari is Japanese in origin and is more functional is use, minimalist almost.

I'm fortunate enough to be teaching a class next week on hip harnesses and their application in a shibari context to my local group of shibari enthusiasts here in the South Coast of the U.K.

While the Two Knotty Boys books are fine, I found that Douglas Kent's Complete Shibari series was far more helpful when I was learning to tie. It has a bonus that it (in general) teaches Japanese-style ties, so you can indeed say that you're doing "Shibari".

@Angelecha: There's definitely lots of rope going on in New York. If you want to experience it, you can try finding your local rope & BDSM groups and meet people who would be willing to tie you up. If you're willing to travel, there's also lots of rope conferences around the continent; they're really fun and interesting.
