Urologist visit - What to expect?

I was referred to a Urologist due a urine test which revealed some blood. With a 3+ week wait for an appointment, I called and asked if I could come in earlier. They said I could come in and see a Physician's Assistant tomorrow. Questions:

Other than insurance info, whay info might I be asked regarding health, sex, ect?

What could I expect to happen during this visit, as well as the one with the Urologist himself?

Other than worrying with what they might find, I'm excited about going.

You did not mention if the blood detected in your urine was microscopic or macroscopic (macro being seen with the naked eye). Microscopic blood is often an indicator of problems within the kidneys or ureters, while macroscopic blood is often associated with things further down the system in the bladder and urethra.

Additional lab work will typically include blood tests to determine PSA and creatinine levels, a more detailed urinalysis, and possibly urethral swabs for bacterial culture. If the blood is macroscopic the urologist may perform a diagnostic cystoscopy to view the inside of the urethra and bladder. A well equipped specialist may do this procedure during an office visit such as your initial examination or you may be booked as an outpatient in a day surgery setting. Routinely they may send you to a Radiology Lab for a prostate ultrasound and IVP X-ray as part of an initial workup. None of these tests other than a cystoscopy are particularly invasive or painful. In many cases blood in the urine may be as a result of a nasty infection and in some instances may resolve spontaneously without a definitive cause being found.
