Gyn exam without stirups

I went with my wife for her GYN exam today. It started out like any other exam.Except when it came time for the Pelvic.The doctor told us she was going to do some thing different today.Instead of pulling out the stirrups she had her scoot all the way down to the edge of the table then spread her legs apart.She performed the Pelvic exam this way.She went on to say it easier for the patient to get into position and easier for them to sit up afterward s and less chance of the patient falling off the table after the exam..My wife said this was a first since all of her past pelvic exam have been done with her in the stirrups.Are any other Doctors switching to this method?

My girlfriend must last month go for a internal echografic, and this happend allso without stirrups, only spreading her legs.

I don't think my wife has ever had stirrups... I think outside of North America it is quite common to do common procedures just on a raised bed.

I had an appointment about a month ago and definitely used the stirrups. I'm sure it probably depends on the doctor/clinic.

I had one once just before gyno surgery for adhesions. I was just laying in the bed in pre op and the doctor came in and did a quick exam. It was really different. Maybe because they had already shot the pre-op medication in my IV. At this point the whole US Army could have been there and it would have not bothered me!

Here in the UK it's rare for a doctor to use stirups on a day to day basis.

My wife has only ever had them used after childbirth for suturing, and once when her first coil was fitted, although recently when she had her Mirena put in the doctor used the frog leg position.

My Wife exam took place in United States.She said it was a different having a pelvic with out the stirrups.She is not sure but thinks this maybe done this way by her Doctor.She asked a couple of girls she works with if they had similar experience.They all told they always have the stirrups out for the exam.They were surprised to hear of her having a pelvic with the stirrups being used.

There has been some research done that having pelvic exams without stirrups make the female patient feel less vulnerable during a pelvic exam. A few doctors have done this in the USA but it has not really caught on. There even been some studies that allow the patient to insert the speculum herself which is suppose the make the patient feel more that she is in control. I personally have not experience a pelvic exam without stirrups but maybe it might happen one day.

I guess its a matter of preference on the part of the examiner/patient.

My wife said that once when she was having a anual physical that right after her breast exam and she was still lying back on the table her doc told her ot bring her knees up and then as he pulled the sheet up to her waist, he told her to bring the soles of her feet together and let her knees just fall apart as far as they would go. he was standing on the side of the table, and put on a single glove and proceeded to push two fingers into her vagina while pressing deep and hard into her lower pelvis, she asked him why he was doing the exam like that and he told her it was because it changes the poslition of her internal organs. Then he slipped his fingers out and had her get into the stirrups for the rest of the exam

Prior to my wife being taken into surgery, her doctor came in a gave her a breast exam and then told her to put her heels together and let her knees fall open ..he then gave her a pelvic and rectal exam in the hospital bed.He did the pelvic and rectal with his hand under the sheet....I never saw a thing except the breast exam.

I always found the frog-leg position to be highly erotic. When the woman puts the soles of her feet together like that, I can just picture her labia opening up nice and wide for the doctor to look at and probe. I'm getting hard just thinking about it.

In Vietnam it was stirrups all the time; here in Australia my Doctor is quite happy to go without them for most exams, but he does use them for a PAP smear and to check for a prolapsed uterus.

My Wife had the exam done the same way about a month ago to check for infection

Since 3 years, for her annual exam, because of regular pelvic problems, she must undergo a complete gyno exam by her doctor (GP).

He's an old doctor and very conscientious so he has always examined my wife totally naked without underwears nor socks (common in France) to check every part of her whole body. So he has always performed a very thorough exam on my wife each time in order to prevent possibly health complications. He never forget to check her entire body.

Besides he has always performed the vaginal exam without stirrups although he has set up stirrups at the extremities of the couch, but probably only for decoration...because he has never used them with my wife...

Without stirrups the only way to examine a woman's genitals is to use the frog position. The woman lies on her back and her legs and her feet are placed together. It's definitely a suboptimal way to examine.

When my wife was pregnant, all four times, the doctor would often have here lay on the exam table slip her panties and jeans down to here knee or lower.
