Where to find a large rectal thermometer

Try e-bay. Good luck.

Look for suppliers of veterinary supplies. Tractor Supply is a good retail outlet, if you have one in your area.

Depends if you are looking for the old glass thermometer type or digital ones. In my eyes all digital thermomters look and feel the same, some of them might have a flexible tip which, at least for me, has no positive effect on the "pleasure factor". The greatest in size glass thermometer I saw so far was in a medfet film scene (xhamster) which might have been probably 30 centimeters long, the tip alone being incredible 3-4 centimeters and greater in diameter than the average. I was looking for it all around the web but was not able to find anything that would come close to what I have seen.

The biggest "normal size" glass thermometer I could find was the following: (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Geratherm-Analogue-thermometer-natural-planning/dp/B00238ZDL8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1364931960&sr=8-2) Although the body itself is not longer compared to regular ones the tip certainly is greater in lengh and diameter and resembles quite close what a rectal temperature felt like as a youngster.

Hi!

My good old Geratherm glass thermometer is broken, now i search a new one, but i don´t find what i search.

I search a glass thermometer specially for rectal use with this bulb on the top.

Please help me to find it, thanks

A candy thermometer workd very well

E-bay has lots of therms for sale.

We love a candy thermometer

I've posted this before but here is the same question so I'll give the same answer.

Try "Tractor Supply" an agricultural supply store with a good veterinary department. Thermometers for large animals are just what you are looking for. If you don't have a "Tractor Supply" store, (i.e. those who live in Manhattan!) can try any veterinary supply shop or dare to go across the GWB and visit the shops in NJ.

Try a feed store and ask for a cattle thermometer. Or try on line at pet supply co.

Here's one place. There are MANY more.

Unfortunately, Epay is the only place that I've seen vintage rectal thermometers. Many years ago, they were reasonably priced. Apparently, some incredibly greedy seller has some really nice ones listed....if you're willing to pay $50.00 each. He hasn't sold any, but still insists on those ludicrous prices. I actually found some in an antique store, and a local flea market. You might get lucky, and find one at an old estate or yard sale. The best bet is to probably look at a veterinary or tractor supply store, as some of the other members have mentioned.

Hi there, as I don't seem to be able to find a standard size old-style glass thermometer online anywhere, would anyone care to describe them to me? I'm not actually looking to buy one it's for a story, I'm particularly interested in precisely how big, i.e wide at the insertable end, they are/were. I should explain that I can't see, so pictures aren't any good to me. Thanks in advance for any help.

A standard medical glass USA style rectal thermometer is 4 inches (10.2cm) long and rounded triangular in cross section 0.25 inches (0.64cm), the bulb can be pea shaped or pear shaped. the bulb is usually just a little larger then the rest of the thermometer, the other end of the thermometer can be rounded or it can have a flattened rounded or rounded triangular glass grip.

A standard veterinary glass USA style rectal thermometer is 5 inches (12.7cm) long and rounded in cross section 0.3 inches (0.76cm), the bulb can be pea shaped or pear shaped. the bulb is usually just a little larger then the rest of the thermometer, the other end of the thermometer can be rounded or it can have a glass ring on it, so you can use a string and tail clip, so it is not lost when using it on cows or horses.

As to colors white background and yellow background under the mercury column is most common, with the end grip red or clear for medical thermometers, and clear or green on veterinary thermometers. I have also seen veterinary thermometers with metal end caps with tail clip ring. Some very old medical thermometers will also have metal end caps usually flattened so it can be griped.

I hope this is of help.

I know that I've said this before but Tractor Supply or other farm supply shops have veterinary thermometers which should satisfy.
