Dr. Kellog's large enemas

Is there any specific information about Dr. Kellog's treatments given in his Battle Creek sanitarium? I have read some stories about very large enemas used as part of his health regime but I wonder how many of these are accurate.

Hey group!!! I hope that ALL of you know about the movie THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE. It starred Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Kellogg, co-starring Bridget Fonda, Matthew Broderick, John Cusak and Dana Carvey. It is also available in pocket-book form.

T'was ALL about enemas. Ah, the wonder of it all.

Dr. Harvey Kellogg wrote several books including 'Rational Hydrotherapy', 'Colon Hygiene' and 'The Ladies' Guide'. The first one mentioned is an enormous volume of water therapies with several pics and references to enemas and douches. He was no quack, but a real M.D. who performed surgeries, went on lectures and of course oversaw his famous sanitarium in Michigan. Some of his methods were undoubtedly questionable and his boxed product was certainly flakey...ha, ha.

The movie 'The Road to Wellville' is a wonderful period piece about americana health and fitness at the turn of the century. Sanitariums catered willingly to those who could afford it and attempted to treat any illness from 'A to Z', especially those afflictions requiring lengthy stays such as tuberculosis. There are some great 8x10 movie stills available that depict Matthew Broderick getting his enema and in bed with a huge enema bag suspended above his head. It's a movie worth seeing and the lines are worth hearing. "Womb manipulation.....?"
