What is your preference for an exam room?

What is your preference for an exam room? I was in one exam room that was large enough to stage a play. An old, New York office building. The usual equipment, exam table, scale, supplies, a screen which had no purpose, a chair. And lots of empty space. Not a comfortable exam room. Nor were the medical center exam rooms which opened onto a building length hall, on the other side of which were medical staff cubicles. There was a divider wall running along the hallway, low enough to see the staff on the other side. I've been in a corner exam room with two doors. The doctor took you from his office through one door, told you to strip to underwear. After the exam, you left by the other door, which led to the payment window. I like exam rooms which are off a hall, with a blank wall on the other side, each room like the ones on either side, and you might hear enough through the walls that you can imagine what is happening, because the rooms are identical. If you noticed an earlier patient being led back from the waiting room, you could picture everything. A room large enough for an exam table, scale, chair, supplies, and blinds closed if there are windows. What sort of exam room would you want to be in, and why?

I don't know that I have ever thought about having a preference for an exam room but I have been in a few different clinics over the years. One clinic was on the second floor of a building that was built in the 1860s and at some point in time some of the space on the second floor had been converted into a clinic. The floor's creaked when you walked on them and the exam rooms were very small with not much if any sound proofing in the walls. You could pretty much hear everything that was happening people moving around walking and the conversation between the doctor and the patient in the next exam room. It made for an interesting experience going there not knowing what you were going to hear or who was going to hear you.

The original clinic in town here was a lot newer but not designed with privacy in mind either. When I first started going there I was very aware of being overheard during my exams. The rooms were a lot bigger and more modern but set up so the doors of the exam rooms were directly across the hallway from each other and they were the thin interior doors. I was there once getting a physical done when a guy I worked with came in for an injury. I knew right away who it was when I recognized his voice. The next day at work he said something to me that he had heard me yesterday at the clinic getting my physical done. I immediately started wondering what part of the physical he overheard and started feeling a little self-conscious and hesitant about going back there.

The clinic I go to now is just a few years old and very modern, you can't hear or really see anything once you are back in the area of the exam rooms. The rooms are very nice and clean, not overly big but set up very efficiently. I guess I prefer it to the others I have been to.

My preference for an exam room would be something similar to an operating room with a viewing gallery that ran around the entire perimeter of the brightly lit examination area. There’d also be an array of video cameras to capture the various test procedures from every angle so that the audience could clearly see what was being done.

I would enter the building into an anteroom with comfortable seating where I’d be met by, and introduced to the Doctors, trainee Doctors and supporting staff and where the session’s content would be described to me in minute detail including how they would be expecting my body to respond to their tests.

Once the introductions had been completed and any questions answered, I’d be asked to get fully undressed in front of the medical and support staff and take a shower in one of three clear glass cubicles also situated in the anteroom ready for the session. There would be another walk through glass cubicle that would blow me dry so that I was ready to be led through to the operating room and be introduced and shown to the audience.

Prior to getting on to the examination table, which would be more of a rotating frame with supporting straps so as to allow maximum access to both sides of my body, there would be an anatomy session using me as the model during which the various muscle groups, genitalia makeup and any physical imperfections would be listed and discussed.

I would then be helped on to the examination table and strapped in place ready for the examination to begin, aroused by knowing that every inch of me would be visible to the audience due to the room’s design and video set up.

I foolishly thought that I had found an old school physician in NYC. On Park Avenue. 2nd floor. Showing every sign of age, stained floors, holes in the exam room walls from previous attachments. So tight it was unnerving. Exam table. Rolling blood pressure. Sink, counters, cupboards. A trash can. I could hear the doctor whom I hadn't met through the wall on the left. The office was a warren of exam, and procedure rooms. And, despite the details about the physical exam for men, I stayed dressed, except for the EKG, sonograms.

I dont have any preference. With the National Health Service as it is you are fortunate to get an examination!

However, the examination is far more important than where it is !

I really don’t have a preference, other than it being well stocked with the essentials. For work they would bring a doctor and staff, they would do station type physical exams, so urine test was in the rest room, eye test and hearing was done in the meeting room, and as strange as it sounds the actual hands on exam with the doctor was done at one time in the coat room, fitness center, and a room that stores tables and chairs. The doctor had a portable massage type table but didn’t use it. The only requirement was that the room could only have one door for privacy. In high school we’re were examined two at a time with two doctors in the nurses office exam room, separated by a set of folding curtains, one went right one went left. There was a surprising amount of privacy for that.

One that isn’t miles from the waiting room and when inside it, isn’t like stepping into a refrigerator. Other than that as long as the examination itself is up to scratch, I’m fairly happy!

We have seen all sizes. one recently was with this really old doctor. and the room was just large enough for the exam table and room next to it for one person to stand. more room at the bottom where his stool and cabinets were. the whole room was probably like 5' X 12'.

On the other extreme my wife's first complete exam was performed at an Army clinic in a huge room. she thought there were lots of things for testing. so maybe it was a classroom also.

our favorite was a middle age doctor who had a very 1950's office/exam room. when we went in he was at his desk and the exam table was on the other side of the room. very comfortable surroundings. lots of bookshelves. and a couple plants. very homey. Plus we caught him off-guard. it was a meet each other appointment. wasn't spose to be any sort of exam. just meet the new doctor and he meets us. but she had a really bad rash on around her pussy that really scared her . so when he asked if there were any immediate concerns she told him abut the rash. she had on a dance skirt that buttoned all down the front.

he said, "i can step out so you can take your skirt off," but it sorta sounded like a question. and she said, "oh, that's not necessary. this comes off easy. and she just unbuttoned a few at the top and dropped it to the floor. she didn't have panties on because of the rash. she reached down to pull her blouse away and stepped towards him so he could see better. he was still at his desk and he said lets go over to the exam table.

so then she walked in front of us both over to the table and got on. her amazing butt on beautiful display. My favorite room

@Rick62 can you read my mind? This is exactly what I have fantasized about so often

Smaller with a window with blinds, an exam table and either a counter by the wall with drawers and/or a rolling cart with supplies on it (Lube, gloves, scopes, etc.)

I don't think I have a specific preference for an exam room. But I have had some unusual ones. The pediatrician office that I went to as a teen was an old house that was converted into a doctor's office. The house looked like it was probably built in the 1910's. You could tell that the living room had been converted into the waiting room, the kitchen had been converted into the receptionist area and that two of the bedrooms became the exam rooms. What was odd about one of the exam rooms was that it had a huge window that went from the floor almost to the ceiling. It took up almost the whole wall. It was covered by vertical blinds so that no one could see in. It was just kind of a weird feeling to be in an exam room with a huge window like that. If those blinds were ever opened, you could see right in from the street. Of course, they were always closed at least while patients were in there.

And of course the make-shift exam rooms for sports physicals at our high school were always interesting. They just used the administrative offices so they really didn't feel like an exam room. It seemed kind of strange being examined in a non-medical environment.

First and foremost a clean and tidy appearance. A well maintained office such as no tears in upholstery, walls are not scuffed and damaged, sinks that don’t drip. Finally, the room doesn’t need to be huge but there does need to be room to move around, preferably on both sides of the exam table.

I would like to have an exam room similar to my pediatrician’s office growing up. Window at the top of the wall, tile floor (cold on bare feet), Woden chair on one side of the room, table in the center with a leg extension, and traditional scale with height measurement stick.

I expect a nice modern, very clean and tidy exam room with room to move around. A basket to put your clothing articles in for gown exams at the least. Clothing sitting or draped on a chair is sankey IMO.
