Supercision / superincision

In the Pacific islands, boys traditionally went through supercision: a cut would be made to the top of the foreskin, so as to free the glans completely without cutting the foreskin off.

(I understand that nowadays, many families eschew the traditional ceremony and instead opt for an American-style circumcision.)

I wonder what the result looks like. I've tried finding pictures of the result, to no avail.

I think this is also the traditional approach in the Philipines as well

@Erik_J But nowadays in the Philippines they do a normal circumcision, right?

No the traditional "tuli" still seems to be very common from what I gather, mainly because it is so readily available. A full western-style circumcision done in hospital is expensive and a lot less common.

@nampus I thought what was done in "Operation Tuli" was circumcision, not supercision?!

No it's usually a dorsal slit from my understanding.

That is my understanding too along with the comment that men from this areas have an extra bit of skin hanging off the bottom

From nurses I know who participate to these missions it semms the traditional dorsal slit is no longer used for mass campaigns. A dorsal slit circumcision is used, in accordance with WHO guidelines. After the clamping with a vascular forcep the dorsal slit is done then prepuce is distended and a V cut is done avoiding the frenular area so the frenulum is usually preserved. In recent years there has been an emphasis on leaving a certain margin of tissue both ventrally and dorsally, in order to avoid sexual complications, which were too common in the past with more invasive approaches and to involve only surgeons in these procedure although often nursery students and midwifes are involved with different used techniques and results.
