Meatotomy vs Meatoplasty

Meatotomy and meatoplasty are minor procedures commonly performed on circumcised males. If you have had either of these procedures, do you know why meatotomy was chosen over meatoplasty, or vice versa? How old were you when you had your meatotomy or meatoplasty, and when were you circumcised?

Uncut, accidentally performed meatotomy on myself - was wearing PA chastity cage for prolonged time, which caused stretching of piercing hole to the point, that piercing is "cut" all the way through penis head. Splitting is a bit uneven, but I wanted it done anyway. Never considered meatoplasty though, because see no point in it, except medical necessity

I think my meatus may have been stretched during the circumcision rather than cut, because it is a wide opening, but meatotomy or meatoplasty is not mentioned on my medical notes

I don't know the correct term, but I had surgery to open my meatus when I was 10 years old. I think it's a meatotomy

@EusebiJ You were circumcised some years before that?

What's the relationship between circumcision and problems with the meatus?

@Jacana You're right, I had a circumcision three years before this operation to be exact. The thing is, it's a kind of luck; it doesn't happen to everyone. But leaving the penis without the foreskin leaves the meatus and urethra exposed to infections and chafing from underwear. That chafing made my urethral opening narrow, and they had to open me up so I could urinate properly.

What's the relationship between circumcision and problems with the meatus?

I recently read an article, though, I’m afraid, I can no longer find it, stating that stenosis of the urinary meatus could be a complication of circumcision.

As I recall, if I’m not mistaken, this was caused by damaging an artery from the frenulum.

Here are a few references to illustrate my point of view...

I’m not sure whether there has been a formal study, but many practitioners seem to agree that meatal stenosis, which is much more common in circumcised males, is caused by damage to the frenular artery and the resulting interruption of the blood supply to the area. Many circumcisers are aware of this, and some will even perform a meatotomy during circumcision if they believe there is a high risk of developing meatal stenosis, or when they perform a frenulectomy before or after removing the prepuce.
