Has anyone been REQUIRED to have a chaperone?

I’m not sure if it was required per se but at my most recent GP appointment the (female) doctor explained what she was going to do and said “I normally have a chaperone for this”.

My view is that I’m usually ok with not having a chaperone, but if the provider would be more comfortable with one present, then who am I to object?

At a previous practice, I’ve had female doctors do the same exam without a chaperone or offering me one but not insisting.

However, it was 15-20 years ago, and I had a close relative who worked there. At the time, I didn’t really want to be seen by too many of my relative’s colleagues (some of whom I knew not only as a patient) in that state, if I could avoid it.

Not since my pediatrician who required a parent. I only saw him (with my mom as chaperone) until I was 16. Ever since then, no chaperones.

We had a urologist appointment this week and I read the poster on the door. Anyone can request a chaperone, but the clinic policy is it has to be a "Medical Chaerone" - not a family member. Girls under 15 must have a medical chaperone, again not a family member.

We've had nurses and others in the exam room, not sure if that was required or not.

I've had countless genital exams for urinary incontinence of 14 years, kidney stones, enlarged prostrate, pre-op and post-op MtF SRS Vulvoplasty surgery. Most exams there wasn't another medical staff person for the exams. When there was I'm not sure if they where as a chaperone.
