September free prostate exam clinics

September focuses on each man's prostate. My area hospital sent the email announcement for an annual, free, prostate exam clinic. After scheduling online ahead of time for the limited slots over two afternoons, a two weeks wait. Last year, I showed up, early, found the same forms to fill out on a table in a clearly marked waiting area. Nothing too detailed. An acknowledgement of what you had agreed to, how to get results mailed to you, whether, or not you are a patient there. The same nurse took me to another nurse in a room for a blood draw. Then I was brought into an exam room. The first year, I had been told to unbuckle my jeans. Nothing was said last year. Within a very short time, one of the urology doctors came in. I was told to drop my briefs (I had taken my jeans off), in, and out (his gloved finger). The first year I had been told that one side was hard, one side normal. When my PCP checked the following Spring, he said that both were normal. A few weeks later, I received the blood test results, and his manual opinion.

These clinics are usually widely available.

Find it hard that they are still doing a DRE all the guidelines suggest now that it’s out dated and 99.9% ineffective. The latest guidelines suggest PSA test followed by imaging unless you have specific symptoms.

My current urologist insists on doing a dre even with my PSA results on the low end of the scale. I don't mind.

@SubPatient4u agree. My subs PCP said if the same person doesn't do the DRE every time the subtle differences from probe to probe may not be noticed. PSA testing is better.

@missstress @SubPatient4u the PSA is the blood test that I noted in my post. They are doing both for free here. I receive results from both.
