My mid-30s daughter and I do a three-day juice fast together about twice a year. It’s a healthier and more therapeutic way to clean myself out than taking enemas till clear, which in years past I found unpredictable, exhausting, and even potentially dangerous through rapid loss of electrolytes.
Daughter Jen had a hospital dietitian as a roommate for three years, when she learned the protocol. Typically, we start on a Wednesday prior to a three-day weekend by eating light and beginning the juicing on Friday evening.
Saturday morning we take the first of two 1500ml warm water enemas (sea salt added) spaced about 4 hours apart with electrolytes regained in between. Juices are sometimes pre-prepared and stored in a refrigerator, or a combination of freshly made on the spot every 3 to 4 hours. We are out and active on Saturday afternoon, making sure all the enema residue is released. (You’d be surprised what still comes out two hours later.)
Sunday morning early is a third enema, same as the Saturday type, and by now, most everything that was up there is close to down below or out. (Tip: good idea to have a medicated Vaseline or Desitin handy.) most Sundays are church for us, so I take the enema right around 7 AM. Jen gets up later, she takes hers by 8 o’clock.
They protocol calls for a fourth enema on Monday, but only if needed, and I’ve never felt the need. Both of us are running clear by then. Monday is a gradual return to breaking the fast, and on Tuesday, we are pretty much back to our normal diet routine.
We know this is not for everyone, but for daughter and me it’s a way for both of us to give ourselves a thorough internal cleanse — and it’s a time to catch up and do some mother-daughter bonding.
