Held down during exam

Yall, oh my goodness.

Idek where to start. I had a baby and then had to go back to the hospital after some complications once going home. I was in the L&D triage waiting, my belly hurt a lot. A hot, young male doctor came in and gave me a very thorough and painful abdominal exam. During the exam, I pushed his hand away involuntarily when he got to the painful side and without saying anything, he just caught my hand, laid it beside me and then pinned my wrist down to the bed and continued the exam. I was crying out in pain the entire time, trying to pull my arm free but he was a lot stronger than me so he held me down with no effort. After this I was super surprised he didn’t say anything, like relax or asked me to stay still. In my mind I enjoyed it but in the moment it was scary and very painful so my struggling was real. He was very nice after and didn’t say anything about what just happened, neither did I but I was shocked internally by the sudden holding down. Anyone else ever had this happen during an exam?

Based on what you have written, it does not look like you experienced seizure or were bleeding severely. This sounds like a criminal assault/ battery charge in almost all the states. The doctor should have talked to you, de-escalated first.

Yes, this was for real. It was NC. I was surprised from the first touch being so deep even, and how he continued pressing really hard despite me crying out the entire time. Yeah I’m surprised he didn’t stop and talk to me throughout or do it lighter. I didn’t report him though. Idk why he didn’t say anything.

Look up your statute of limitations for North Caroilna - most places have 3 years. You may still have time to report him. This is great for roleplay but not acceptable at all in medical world anywhere.

He probably didn't say anything because he got counsel from the hospital. Mention of it would be providing more evidence of his criminal misconduct.

What I meant by he didn’t say anything I meant during the exam and in the room after the exam, so before the hospital would have ever known. I doubt he mentioned the details. I’m not interested in trying to report or sue, but it was traumatic that he held me down and didn’t react or soften the exam at all while I was crying out. I couldn’t even speak or ask him to stop because I was in so much pain. This was after a C-section.

I understand your stance in not getting into the hassle. But you could be doing other women in the future a huge favor by reporting the guy so that they do not have to go through what you did while being in such a vulnerable state. Would you wish that experience on someone ? I wouldn't.

In a way one could argue he just has a lot of experience and has his method, though not gentle, of getting it over with quickly. Might be a controversial take but just providing a potential alternate perspective.

As a medical doctor I worked in emergency rooms before starting my own practice. I would suggest that you speak with the doctor about the incident. Not going to make an excuse but I’ve met many doctors who don’t have very good bedside manners and don’t realize it as they are going through the motions that they were taught.

When I have had to examine patients who were complaining of a lot of pain and the exam may be difficult; I usually try to bring a nurse with me (the same sex as the patient if possible) to help calm and/or restrain the patient as necessary so that I can focus on the exam itself.
