Who has witnessed your rectal exam?

When I was getting a medical exam to stay out of Vietnam, the doctor was performing a rectal exam just as his very pregnant nurse knocked then walked immediately into the exam room. She apologized but I told them it was OK, that I didn't care. The doc asked her to leave anyway. Nonetheless, for a few seconds she had a full view of my ass with the doc's finger in my rectum. I found the experience a little kinky, both embarrassing and exciting at the same time.

Decades later one particular lady doctor always brought in a female chaperone during my genital and rectal exams. The procedure was for me to hand the paper sheet, which had been covering my lap, to the chaperone as I stood up to be examined. Then she would hold the sheet where it would obscure her view of my anatomy. The last time I saw that particular doctor, however, I forgot the protocol and just put the sheet on the exam table. The doctor didn't say anything and conducted the examination in full view of the chaperone. Once again my feeling was embarrassed but excited.

Has anyone else felt that way when other medical personnel were present during a potentially embarrassing exam?

At a urologist follow up when it was determined to do a cystoscopy, the female medical assistant/nurse was a chaperone and participant in the procedure and exam. She was in the room preparing the equipment while I got bottomless and got up to the table. I futility placed the drape over my lap while she helped me place my legs in the knee crutches. With the drape moved up more as a barrier between my shirt and the business end of the table, she prepped my penis for the scope with a bedadine bath and inserting lidocaine numbing jelly. I'm sure she got a good look at the starfish with my feet up. She helped the doctor with the cystoscopy and afterwards helped the doctor with a lubed finger to insert to check my prostate. After the exam, she was there to follow up by wiping the lube off my rectum and any remaining bedadine and leaking water from my penis while helping me get my legs down from the crutches. She was still in the room for clean up while I shuffled into the adjacent bathroom to pee and get dressed.

Probably not so embarrassing to think about considering how many procedures they must do and eventually every exam being as forgettable as a mechanic seeing a Nissan Altima in the shop.

Over years, I have had many rectal exams with numerous doctors, often with nurses, interns, residents, med students, (Not unusual in the Navy and at VA) and other chaperones present. To me, it's not a big deal,

The only times there's been other people in the room when I have been given a rectal exam is when I have had colonoscopies done. That's only been twice, both times I was told that I was going to given a quick rectal exam before they started. Each time there's been two or three nurses in the room.

During both of my colonoscopies, the doctor and her assistant were present. on the first one there was a also a representative of the scope company there as they were using new scopes.

I have only had one other rectal exam, at my physical several years ago, and only the dr. and my wife were in the room for that.

Just had my rectal exam witnessed today. First visit at a new provider. Was a resident Dr and she had her attending come in as a chaperone for the testicular check and DRE.

Just my wife about three months ago.

Female Doctors Assistant, 38 years old. . Met her a few years ago at a restaurant with her husband that Knows my son thru our landscape bissness and my son is the same age as she is and went to school with him... She new my daughter because she is also a nurse at the local hospital.. and didn't know she was my doctors assistant until my regular doctor had to leave for a couple months ago to be with his wife's family because of an emergency and the main office notified me she would take over my care until he returns. She has to check my anus and rectal area every six months for any bleeding or tissue damage because of my regular enema use. ( I take blood thinners) She new a lot about Neuropathy of the colon where you loose feeling feeling in that area and I need to be very car full in monitoring that area. She was More uncomfortable than anything else. She was happy my wife was there. She also showed my wife what to look for and how to use the speculum thing a magiggie. My wife and I have fun with that.

I have had a large number of rectal exams over the years. Most of the time it was just me and the doctor doing the exam in the room. However, a number of times there were one or more other people (usually other medical professionals) in the room: other doctors, medical students, residents, nurses, chaperons, my mother, etc. Two times stick out to me.

One was only time that there was an explicit chaperon in the room. I was going to get some bleeding hemorrhoids checked out. I couldn’t get in to see the surgeon that normally dealt with in a timely matter so I was getting checked out by a nurse practitioner to see if they needed banding or if I should put it off for a while.

After I described my situation, she directed me to pull down my pants and underwear, kneel on the tilting table, and cover up. She said that she would step out to allow me to get undressed and come back with a chaperon to do the exam.

After coming back with a nurse, she raised up and tilted the table and did a through exam. This included an external exam, a digital rectal exam, and an anoscope exam. All the time she was describing to me what she was doing while pointing things out to the chaperon.

I ended up with a prescription for some steroid suppositories and put off the banding for a few more months. (Which I did with my normal surgeon.)

The other time that sticks out was the time that I had a prostate ultrasound done. There were five people in the room besides me. There was my urologist, the resident who did the exam, another resident, a nurse who was assisting, and another nurse (an LPN). I am guessing that the LPN was there as a chaperon as she didn’t seem to do anything but silently watch the resident do a rectal exam and then insert the probe for the ultrasound while my urologist made suggestion to him.

I am pretty sure that was the most people who watched me get a finger up the butt at one time.

My wife and I go to each others physicals and have for almost 40 years. So she saw almost yearly rectal exams and then about 6 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer so she saw a bunch during that process. Now it’s twice yearly to be sure it doesn’t come around again!

Most of the time I have had a rectal exam, there has been a chaperone. I would prefer there wasn’t, but I understand it from the doctor’s perspective. It’s sometimes been a nurse or medical assistant, once it was a scribe, and once it was my mom. You can guess which one was most embarrassing.

In my family doctor's office, staff are allowed to enter the doctor's office without waiting for an answer after knocking. If I remember correctly, I was once almost naked, only in my underwear, but it wasn't during a rectal exam.

During a urological exam at a university hospital, the professor examining me was accompanied by a women doctor in formation. The opposite happened during a proctological exam; the doctor went to get the professor for advice and I had to wait about 10 minutes until he arrived. But I was covered.

I enjoy doing a rectal exam on a woman when her husband is present. I always snap the glove on nice and loud than look at him
