I remember the first enema that I received from a nurse who apologized and said she was going to make me uncomfortable so I would feel better. I was constipated from an excess of pain medication at home following multiple surgeries.
The enema was uncomfortable, so much so that I started to cry from the cramps. But the warm water with some mild soap did what it was supposed to. It took a few minutes on the toilet, but getting what felt like rock hard poop out of me was a godsend. The feeling of relief was incredible.
What happened next, however, changed my tears into unexpected sensuous pleasure. Nurse Angie, who I have written about many times, coaxed me into a second enema about an hour later.
There was more to come out of me, but this time it was so easy and painless. Some mild cramps, but so much different than the first enema. I began to feel a tingling sensation that grew during the enema, and I nearly went over the edge.
Still, not all enemas are made in heaven. Some can be uncomfortable, even painful, depending on what’s happening inside us. We’re all different.
I was embarrassed at first, but this wonderful nurse knew what I was feeling, and quietly told me not to worry, it was normal, and to “just go with it.” I was just 22 at the time, and it was a life changer.
