Enemas in College

Like many people of a certain age I got enemas as a kid. They stopped abruptly around age 12, probably because it was getting obvious I enjoyed them. Other then sneaking an occasional solo one as a teen home alone, enemas faded until my college years.

Once in college, I became curious about whether they were being used. But it’s not an easy subject to bring up, even in free-wheeling college conversations.

I want to write something about college and enemas. I have my own few weak and haphazard experiences, but I want to build on those and others for a believable short story or novella. I’d love to hear some personal accounts of memorable, college-related enema experiences. Especially how enemas came up in the first place.

I don't believe I even had a bag while in college. Privacy was so difficult to come by, either in the dormitories, or outside housing that it was probably the driest time since I was about eight years old. However, I was not too far from home, and I'm pretty sure that every trip home involved and enema at some point. I do remember a couple times buying a bag and other supplies and taking them out into the woods. In one case onto a rented boat became my enema suite. I never kept the supplies for fear of being discovered storing them in my room.

In my country, it's very common for university students to rent a flat alone or share an apartment with other students. Colleges aren't very common for students to live on campus; everyone has to make do.

During my university years, I lived in an apartment alone. Luckily, I could afford this luxury, as I worked while studying.

I never had any problems with enemas, which I took about once a week for health reasons.

My senior year was spent in Belgium, sharing an apartment with three students, two girls and a boy, all German. The first period was difficult; I shared a bedroom with the other boy, and there was no privacy for enemas. I had a bulb enema, so it wasn't difficult to keep it hidden.

The first few months were difficult; I spent a lot of time in the bathroom, which bothered others. The bathroom was also very small and uncomfortable. I reduced the frequencies, and because of that, I wasn't feeling very well...

So I decided to tell the others about it, and to my surprise, they understood and accepted it.

So I started doing them in my bedroom. I'd let my roommate know, and he'd leave me alone.

During my undergarduate years, I did not have an enema bag or take bag enemas unless I was home on vacation. My first two years, I lived in an older dorm which had one large bathroom that served all of the rooms on that floor. An enema was completely out of the question. I dealt with my chronic constipation by taking Dulcolax tablets on the weekends when I knew that I did not have to be in class the next morning. I also tried glycerine suppostitories but found the results to be inconsistent. I could insert those in my room when my roomate was gone and then make a normal trip to the communal toilets 30 minutes later.

The last two years of my undergraduate courses, I lived in a newer dorm that had two bedroom, four man suites. Each suite had its own bathroom, so I had a bit more privacy if I planned ahead. I still didn't do any bag enemas, however. On the advice of my best friend, I started using Dulcolax suppositories. I could insert one in my bedroom and then head to the bathroom when it started to work fully. I would do these during times when my roomates were away in class. That happened several times a week so I knew in advance when my window for constipation relief would be coming up. I also recall doing one Fleet enema in that bathroom but finding that it did not work all that well.

In graduate school, I shared an apartment with one of my best friends. We each had our own bedroom, but shared a single bathroom. I bought one of the old Fleet bagenemas at a local pharmacy and used that for enemas when I needed one. I did them on the bathroom floor on my left side. I had to explain to my friend what was going on, but he was very non-chalant about the whole thing. That conversation lasted about 30 seconds and the subject of enemas never came up again.

When I first started college I did not own a syringe but soon bought myself one for douching. A year or so later when I needed to give myself an enema it was that folding syringe that got used.
