Proper diapering

Never having children I wonder, as I read other’s ideas’, if there is a proper way to diaper some one. Does one position a clothe diaper the same as disposable? How snug? 2 pins or 4? Number and size of tapes? How much ‘air’ time should one plan (being out of diapers). etc. Plastic panties are probably necessary for clothe, but some seem to think beneficial for disposable as well. Does it make a difference plastic backed or breathable ?

This could probably ramble on much longer but I’ll consider it an open field for any inclined to contribute . Thanks
