I have a pelvic physical floor therapy appointment coming up for frequent urination, pelvic spasms, ejaculation pain, and general pelvic aching. My urologist was frank and told me that this will include both external and internal examination. Has anyone else had one of these examinations? What can I expect?
You most likely will get a rectal exam, as that's about the only way for the therapist to feel how tense your muscles are in there.
I've had pelvic floor therapy twice, because I had this annoying nagging cramping feeling up my backside. I've had loads of fingers up my bum to have a feel around, so that I could tell where the spot was that gave me issues. Sadly the first therapist wasn't able to provide me any relief. The second was a lot more elaborate. It also involved electric stimulation to try to get the muscles in there to loosen up. Sadly this did not help either.
Turned out that it is stress related. (duh, of course, in hindsight......) What annoys me is that neither of the therapists even discussed this with me.
Basically what happens is that I subconsciously tighten up my pelvic floor muscles when I am stressed / anxious causing a mild cramping in my anus. It gives me a rather unpleasant feeling of having to poop all the time.
Sadly this cramping also makes me rather sensitive up there, making having any anal fun rather difficult.
So the cure is to have no more stress / anxiety. Now wouldn't that be lovely 😉
