Femoral Artery Check

Question for everyone. Has a doctor ever palates or listened to you femoral artery? If so, when was the last time and why were you being examined?

Yes, last time 10 years ago when I was last examined by an internist who was trained in physical diagnosis as I was. These were during routine annual exams: palpating for quality and symmetry of impulse, right vs left. And, auscultation for bruits. I'm certain they were checked before my emergency aorta repair 2 years ago but I wasn't awake for it.

Yes, I have. My GP seemed to palpate then every time I have had an exam with him for my early puberty as a child. As an adult, I've had them checked in A&E (ER) a couple of times. Last time was when I was knocked off my bicycle and had a suspected pelvic fracture and was complaining of cold legs and loosing feeling. I've also had my practice nurse check them once when I was having my annual diabetes check and she was struggling to locate the pulses in my feet and knee; so she went to top of leg and then worked back down, finding them that time.

Outside of real medical situations, I used to be a First Aider, working on our ambulances and taught first aid. As such, we regularly practiced activities requiring femoral pulse checks.

Only once or rather three times in short order, when I had a swollen lymph node in that region. I thought it was a lymph node. A nurse that I was getting kinky with around that time thought it was a lymph node. An incompetent osteopath examined it and tried to tell me was a femoral hernia. He believed that there were no lymph nodes in the inner thigh.

I went home, called my work and said I might be needing emergency surgery, then basically laid down for two days until I could see a specialist. He examined the same region and fairly laughed his ass off when he saw the “hernia.” Went back to my regular GP to get antibiotics for the lymph node and he laughed too, pulled out a paper chart of the lymphatic system and showed me that there’s an abundance of lymph nodes in that area. By that time the swelling was already going down.

It bears saying that I was like twenty two at the time and a femoral hernia is most common in women who are doing manual labor into their seventies and eighties.

I guess the only upside was a rather intimate exam from my favorite nurse. Should call her.

I’ve never had such an extensive exam. Unless you specifically mention a concern or discomfort, I wouldn’t expect much more than a cursory exam. I’ve had doctors miss things, that became serious.

I had my femoral artery listened to in a physical at work last summer where they listened to my peripheral pulses for bruits. Just above my bellybutton, behind my knees, and my femoral pulse by lowering my boxers slightly and putting the stethoscope inside on both sides.

Once prior to surgery, Also checked pulse in my foot. My wife use to get a femoral artery check every two years or so, as prep for a catheter to do a four point cerebral brain image. That’s where they often go for both heart and/or brain studies or procedures. I believe they went through her right arm for a Swan-Ganz placement.

Since childhood and throughout my teens I used to go to a cardiologist for annual checkups (a benign heart murmur). After she'd done the ECG I would be told to keep still. The nurse would come, unbutton my jeans and expose my lower belly. The doctor would usually just palpate, but once or twice she also listened. I've never had a doctor - any doctor - do it since then.

Although once I went for a venous ultrasound where they checked the arteries in my legs and feet and there I was told to grab the bottom end of my boxers and pull it up, which effectively turned them into a sort-of-a Borat-style swimsuit and the doctor also checked my femoral arteries.

Palpating and listening to my femoral arteries was done during my physical examinations in the 80s and early 90s. It seems to have lost favor in recent years for some reason? It has been a long time since a doctor raised my waistband and slid his hand under to feel the pulse or place his stethoscope for a listen.

My late wife saw a vascular surgeon on a regular basis. He would check her femoral pulse by slipping his hand down her panties. Later I would kid her that he was getting fresh with her.

My roleplay doctor performs Femoral artery checks both sides, initially with my underpants on and again later in my medical face up on his exam table, underpants removed my legs in the frog position.

An attractive 40 year old female pcp asked me to take down my jeans a bit so she could check my femoral. After she felt the pulse, it took me by surprise when she then tugged on my underwear and told me to take them down so she could check me for a hernia. As I pulled the jeans and shorts down exposing my penis, I started to become erect. The cute young female chaperone had a surprised look on her face when she noticed my condition. The doctor never said a word.

Yes he has checked it by putting his fingers on it and feeling my pulse. One of times I remember him doing it he commented more to himself than to me saying my pulse felt strong. I don't know if something was bothering him or if he was just being through, I don't know what his reason was for deciding to check it there.

I think the first time I had my femoral pulses checked when I was about 11 was the start of my medical fetish.

I'd hurt my leg earlier that year and had issues with circulation as part of that. The first couple of times I'd been to the doctor is was given ibuprofen and told to rest it. This time he saw it while it was still swollen and discoloured. A family member was in the room, which made it more awkward.

Because of how it looked, he asked me to take my trousers off and lie down rather than just asking that I roll the trousers up. He went and got a dipper and used it first at my ankles and knee, then explained he was going to check my femoral pulse in my groin.

He said he'd do one side st a time, using his fingers to find it first, and asked permission to adjust my underwear. I felt cool air where I hadn't before and looked down and saw my relatively new public area exposed. He had massive hands, and I still remember his cold fingers pushing firmly into my groin
