Rectal temperature during women’s physical

I think it has been asked but I can’t find it…..

But; do any women get their rectal temperature taken during your women’s well check physicals?

How do you feel while getting your temperature taken as an adult? Are you embarrassed thinking “I’m too old for this?!”, uncomfortable or you are like; “whatever it doesn’t bother me!” Let it happen!

I still get my temperature taken at all doctor visits; well checks and sick visits! So yes even during well women well checks I get it rectal!

I’m one; it doesn’t bother me in the least!

They don't take my temperature, it's just weight, blood pressure and then a smear test.

You do not get your temperature taken when you are having a gyno exam or something like that, it would just be a bit silly unless it seemed like you had a high temperature anyway because you could be ill. It is fun to get my rectal temperature taken in a play exam like my husband gives me but a real exam would not include it normally and it would not be a rectal temperature anyway but one of those sensors put over your forehead probably.

Was that something that might have happened in countries, where rectal temperature was taken regardless of age or gender?

I don't have a gyn exam but I do know a LOT of doctors across different countries. I know of only 2 cases (one directly from the doctor, one anecdotal from a patient who I know - so its unlikely she is lying) where the doctor has taken rectal temperature during the gyn exam. I am really curious in which country and state/province @Luvbottomtemps is getting her experience.

As @Amethyst said, most times they do not take the temperature and now-a-days, even if they do, they point a gun at your forehead which registers the temperature faster than you can put your hands up. They aren't even willing to spend the 30s for an oral temperature, so spending 5 minutes for a rectal is out of question for most of them. The one doctor who does it consistently is in rural France, mid 50s, is really passionate, doesn't have much money and doesn't care for it, regularly books 45 minutes to an hour slot for his patients when the country standard is 20 (30 minutes tops). When I asked him why he does and the others do not, he said adding 5 extra minutes for them means they see 20% less patients which means less money and more wait time for the patients. He says he has a much smaller patient pool and he dedicates much more time to each of them - that's the way he likes and does not want them to feel rushed. In urban areas, even in France, they will never take your temperature rectally, if they take your temperature that is.

And in the US, people get 10 minutes routinely. I doubt any doctor will want to decrease their earnings by a third, given the huge amount of student loans and the litigious culture we have here.

Are you in some rural area ? And is that specifically for you or across the board ? Not that it is "wrong" - just highly surprised this happens more than I thought it did

This is not a question of prudishness. I should point out, again, that misuse of medical professionals for pursuing kink does not reflect well on the medfet community. Get a play partner or a play doctor for that.

@DrZ that is so right what you said and making them or trying to make them some of your kink without them consenting is bullshit.

@Temptime98_6 you could ask your doctor to check your temperature if you think maybe you had a fever but I am sure they would use the forehead sensor type of thermometer, it would not be ok to ask for rectal because that would not really be needed would it.

You are so quick to jump all over this post yet there's all sorts of highly questionable kinks posted on Zity all the time. The OP claims that her temperature is taken rectally by her doctor all the time. Is she involving him in her kink? Or, is it done professionally, and with the doctor's concent? It's either fact, or complete BS. I introduced a theoretical scenario where one could ask a Doctor if they had any objection to a rectal temperature check (Still the gold standard even if out of fashion), and all sorts of Hell broke loose. The post was intended to be clinical, not kink related. Other members have posted how they ask for, and receive, rectal temperature checks by colonhydrotherapists, without so much as a peep. But, by all means, lets keep up with the posts about Phimosis!, Daddy's penis growing up, pooping in diapers, stretching your butthole to the diameter of a bowling ball, and yanking Barbie dolls outta your bum.

@Temptime98_6 Talking about other kinks being problems too is just deflecting from what you are saying. Do not do that please. If you asked for rectal you would still be wanting a doctor to get involved in your kink and @DrZ told you how and why that was not ok. The forehead sensor would be ok to measure your temperature so just stop arguing please, you are just wrong about this.

I usually give the adult females that come into my practice the option of me taking their temperature rectally or in their ear. I explain the pros/cons of each way if it is their first time. You would be amazed at how many adult women actually choose to have it taken rectally. I use an electronic thermometer so it takes longer to get them in proper position than the ten to fifteen seconds to take their actual temperature.

I have commented before about rectal temperature taking and my doctor. I started to see him when I was 11 and was extremely shocked when he said he was going to take my temperature as I sat on the exam table. I was getting ready to open my mouth and say “ah” like at my previous doctor and he tells me to lay back and turn over. I was so confused as he came up to the table and took my underwear down and told me to relax and inserted the thermometer. He’s done it that way for the past 9 years, he only recently switched to digital thermometers so instead of 5 plus minutes it’s now like 15 seconds. It’s one of the reasons I’m on this site I guess.

@ccm93 So interesting... to have it done this way, which I never have by the doctor. Can't recall any friends mentioning having it done like this at the doctor's office... or at least they didn't admit to it 😳 With the instant digital reading in the ear, why does he choose this way to take your temp?

@GraceT To be honest it’s not like I was telling or asking my friends who went to his office how he took theirs; unless I happened to see them getting it taken that way or they saw me having my taken that way.

At the next appointment I told him that I researched his answer and found it to be true but that there are newer methods and his was “old school”; he then told me to turn over and continued with this is how he was going to do it. No, and I do not expect to. It is a time-consuming thing to do and is probably considered out of the normal practice in the public health system. We don't have physicals here. Just go in, address any specific problem, and be sent out for a blood test. You're lucky to see a Doctor for more than 10 minutes. Mine has three exam rooms and just wooshes in and out like a fly. There is none of this weight height thing done anymore. Health care in Canada. If you're not sick or need your prescriptions refilled, you don't go to a Doctor. I am referring to a GP, Family Doctor. From my and everyone else I know's experiences here.

I sure do not have the nerve to ask for a rectal temp reading. Such an act would get me the stink eye and a swift kick out of the office to boot I suspect. Just not done in these parts, I would probably say no if given the option and find another Doctor. Why? It would just seem out of what I am used to. Just a Doctor wanting to take my temperature out of the blue would seem odd, let alone rectally. I will save this experience for play scenarios. I feel this is where it belongs.

Places like the US, where Doctors do business directly with clients, I don't know. From what I read here, it seems like a radically different medical environment.

It is up to you how you handle but I believe you can sue his ass out of existence for violation of consent. This is the US of A and this is why 99.999+% doctors don't take temperatures rectally

Whooo, that's too much! just say no and leave! Report it or something. This is not OK. Too many people do what they are told. Especially with your body, just don't do that. No one has power over you unless you give it to them.

Clearly I am not female so this is just an independent thought on doing what is required from a doctor or nurse. I tend to be someone who will comply. If receiving a rectal temp is so distressing then I would seek out another provider. Doing so for me would need to be balanced by what is good about my care from this provider. The temp taking is relatively brief but clearly a bit embarrassing and personal but so are most aspects of a complete exam. Just my thoughts.

Not saying its wrong - just that it happens once in a blue moon (in the US at least) unless you are unconscious and in an ER. Some people are perfectly fine with this and some will be mortified.

@Laura41 Very curious what your setting is.

Is it rural or urban area ? Small private clinic or big hospital ? And does the doctor take the temperature or the nurse ? Are they male or female or changes depending on who is on schedule? For your regular exam, do they give you a gown or is it like in Western Europe?

@DrMichael I live in an urban area and go to a medical group affiliated to a hospital. Generally the nurse will take my temp but Dr or PA has on occasion. I see the same medical team each time except for a rare occasion when my Doctor may have an emergency then I am asked if ok or reschedule. I am given a gown when needed.

@Laura41 So, you change into a gown for your vitals ? I am assuming they take height, weight, BP, pulse oximeter and temperature all together ? Do they assign you female nurses/ PA or is it whoever is available?

@DrMichael depending on the type of visit, sometimes i just bare my bottom and the one of the nurses or PA will take my temperature.
