That's certainly true, and I think it's a positive development.
If you're ill or have a medical problem, you primarily want a competent doctor who can cure you quickly.
And yes, I remember that as a small child, fever was sometimes measured rectally (now with a meter on the forehead, and your temperature is known in a second).
For flu or bronchitis, antibiotic injections in the gluteal region were almost always necessary (now there are much better pills for this, and prescribing antibiotics is even strongly discouraged).
A prostate exam is performed using a simple blood test, etc.
The only thing that may still be administered occasionally are suppositories, simply because they are less taxing on the stomach.
And even during gynecological examinations, I've heard from several ladies (thanks for this) on this forum that it's long since been the case that women are required to undress completely.
In fact, the male gynecologist profession, especially here in Belgium, is under increasing pressure.
Recently, there was a huge uproar about a male gynecologist who clearly overstepped his bounds. Initially, three women filed a complaint, but since this made the news on TV, 200 complaints have already been received
. There are strong calls for a male gynecologist to be assisted by a female nurse, and the examination should be conducted under very strictly defined rules.
Still (and thankfully), there will always be many people with a medical fetish. I've noticed a growing number of young women with a healthy interest in it.
This perhaps explains the continued success of a forum like zity and the ever-growing number of play doctors.
