Do you remember “back to school” examinations?

I certainly do. I’m not sure if it was required by the school or just required by my mother, but every year in August, just before school started, I was sitting on the doctor’s exam table and nothing but my Fruit of the Looms

“….IN nothing but my Fruit of the Looms.”

I don’t think I ever had ones for specifically school. Just annual exams that would then be used to fulfill the school requirements

Mine were always in the spring or early summer around my brother’s and my birthdays. So end of school I guess for us. Until my college entrance physical which was in August.

I usually went in for my yearly exam towards the end of summer, so they kind of acted as their own "back to school" exams. The doctor would do the sports physical + the full exam bundled together

I didn't necessarily have "back to school" exams because I would have mine during late winter/early spring to get me ready for camp during the summer with my regular pediatrican.

I did have two school exams at the beginning of the year with the local school doc for sports for the year. That happens junior and senior year with the same guy. Nice and professional doc.....would have me take off my shirt, shoes, and socks. Do the normal exam exception didn't go into my shorts/underwear lying down. When it came to the genital exam, he would have me stand up and drop them in front of him as he stood there putting on gloves and asking me various questions with my shorts/underwear at my ankles. Came over and checked me out then had me pull them back up. It was always done in the spare office in the guys locker room. And there would be chairs outside of the locker to sit in before you had to go in.

My first year, there weren't any other guys there before but when i left, there was another guy there that i didn't recognize. Then my senior year, two guys from my senior class were there going in before me and when I left, a couple guys I played sports with on other class level was there waiting to go in.

…. the nurse who told us to undress completely when we arrived at the examination rooms. Embarrassed then but so pleasantly remembered.

@DrJay , what age were you boys? Or was it every year throughout the school?

There is a similar thread here that I responded to once about a similar experience. Only once do I recall having to undress down to underpants. It was winter time and back then we kids wore heavy winter clothes because we walked to school and we would play outside during lunch recess so you were dressed for winter cold. As such I was wearing heavy shoes and pants that would make getting an accurate weight and waist measurement a problem. We kids were seen one-on-one by the nurse so there was no embarrassment with having other kids in the room, though it would be kind of odd to be embarrassed anyhow because we had showers after gym class. It was the early 1970's LOL.
