Not quite a mandatory exam, but I do remember booking a physical exam when I started going to school at a university at the student health center.
A small Japanese lady doctor walked into the exam room and asked me if I wanted to change the visit to a "return visit" since most students typically visit the health center for specific concerns. Plus a difference of $10 instead of $50 for the full physical exam. I mentioned that it's okay to proceed with the physical and she gave me a reassuring, as you'd like and told me to undress to my underwear and gave me a drape only really good to hide my joe boxers until it was time to stand up from the table.
She then gave me a pretty thorough exam for me up that point as a young adult. Having me walk around the room in my boxers for gait, walking on tippy toes for balance. Stretching in certain motions and checking the spine for scoliosis. Then really moving my arms and legs while I was lying down on the table to check the extremities. The abdomen check with the palpation on my stomach and her slight tug on my boxers to the end of my happy trail and pubic hair line to feel my femoral pulse really started the some excitement in my nethers. Unfortunately, I didn't have any time to recover and subside as I had to stand up and drop the boxers for a check of my male organs. Like a deer in headlights I was anxious about my developing erection I crooked my head and stared at the future renderings of a new health center. Sensing my awkwardness, the doctor had to mention that I can relax about suddenly getting an erection and it's really more of a concern at my age if I'm unable to get them regularly. After a good feeling of my shaft, squeeze of the meatal opening, she gave my testicles the firmest, yet inquisitive feeling for lumps and encouraged me to check this on my own. By now I had developed a good erection and when she pressed her finger into the inguinal ring for the hernia check, the erection quickly retreated faster than the French in the Battle of Marne. A few coughs, repeating on the other side, I thought the exam was nearly over, but then the doctor told me she noticed my skin was relatively dry and wanted to check another area. I heard her raise the exam table a little and asked me to assume the position bent over with my chest on the table. With me hugging and holding onto the table for dear life, she gave my cheeks a good spread and pressed on my anus noting to eat fiber, stay hydrated to prevent the development of hemorrhoids and fissures. I felt fortunate she didn't need to go any further than that and the exam was over.
I think back and wonder if she gave tried to give me an out and save money or time on the visit. Or to give me the most thorough exam to really make that $50 worth of medical attention and some lifelong tips on moisturizing regularly. Always good to get a clean bill on health. Never felt the need the go back but definitely wondered if another physical would be the same.
