I have had several exams in just a drape. Mostly skin exams but some annual physicals many years ago.
It's been awhile, since these days I'm not even asked to remove any clothes and almost never touched or physically examined at the doctors office. It's more of a mental health like exam for my annual physicals. Why even go?
I had one memorable annual exam, many years ago, where the nurse looked at me, then the folded cloth gown. She instantly knew it wasn't going to fit me, and it was the only size they had in the office. She instructed me to use it as a drape instead of wearing it.
The doctor walks into the room and instantly says I should wear the gown, not drape it across my lap. She helps me maneuver the gown up to my shoulders. The fabric barely covers my hips, let alone my lap. But I hold it in place the best I can. She does her exam, them has me lay back. Yep, I was completely exposed and she didn't notice for another minute or two. She ended up taking the gown off my shoulders to pull it down, to cover my chest and waist. After she was done with me laying down she asked me to stand up in the center of the room. She moved the gown back up on my shoulders, and again I was exposed as the cloth barely went past my belly button while standing.
She said she would skip a few tests and get me back up on the exam table so I could cover up.
The nurse came back into the room. The DR had a quick chat about the cloth gown and the nurse was about to say he doesn't need a gown but the DR told her to give me final instructions, allow me to get dressed and check out at the front desk as she left the room.
