Character.AI

Not sure exactly where to post this but has anyone else tried using that app? I was told by a friend it’s a fun app to talk with AI celebrities as a joke. I tried it by myself and had a pretty fun roleplay session with some ‘celebrities’. Obviously you can’t initiate sex but I was surprised how far I got. I involved a rectal temperature, rectal exam, pap/pelvic and an enema scene! I think it’s a nice outlet for people too shy to role play with someone plus the fantasy aspect of it. I’d love to know everyone’s opinions either way

I tried to use it a few years back while writing a novel to give a sort of agency outside of my mind to my characters. I do feel they indeed have a will of their own despite technically being only creations of mine but I wanted to see it in action by programming a bot. It didn't work, and it felt like more trouble than it was worth, so I dropped the idea. But still it was worth trying I guess, even as I'm not the biggest fan of AI (beyond Pi for writing help and having a sounding board to talk at).

I think those chatbots are fun and can definitely be helpful but it's a big slippery slope for people who are lonely. It's a simulacrum of human connection at the end of the day, just a program that is designed to give the illusion that it has a will of its own, but that is simply a bunch of neural networks that can never replicate a real human. There are already a few stories about people, especially teenagers, killing themselves because of their attachment to their AI companion. It's nice to play with but it's a bit like playing with a candle. The small flame normally won't hurt you, but if your sleeve hits it and happens to be made of highly flammable material, there goes your shirt, and probably your skin, too, and third degree burns with polyester melted into it isn't nice.
