Hello uterus owners - I’m helping someone close to me make up their mind about changing contraceptives and I’d love some input from you all. We’ve been asking on several forums/ groups, but why not ask the lovely ladies here! It looks like it’s been a while since there’s been a non-fet contraceptive discussion on Zity.
After switching from a monophasic oral contraceptive to a triphasic oral contraceptive, to aid mood regulation, someone close to me has started having an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in the tablet (something that binds it, but not certain what) and there is no other brand/ compound recipe to consider. They also don’t want to go back to a monophasic pill.
They are fairly confident they want an IUD, because they have no plans on wanting to try getting pregnant for at least the next 10 years - they want to finish uni and set their professional life up, and are unsure about wanting children at all to be honest.
The problem is, when they ask for advice/ experiences, they are being given answers from people with a Mirena implant, which as a hormonal option is not something they wish to consider as they’ve decided they don’t want to mess with their hormonal cycle anymore, they’ve been on hormonal contraceptives of some description for 4 years.
They also say they like getting their period. Ok like may be a strong word, but they find it reassuring to have a ‘normal’ cycle that they can track and subdue any anxiety with their period. These combined, are making them strongly consider a copper IUD.
I’d love to hear any first hand experience, if anyone wishes to share?
