Surprised rectal exam

Has any Doctor ever given you an unexpected rectal exam?

Once Mine did by undoing my pants and having me lay on my side while pulling down my clothes and inserting 2 fingers deep inside. I was not ready or prepared for it.

Yes quite a few years ago I went in for a physical that my employer required us to have done yearly. I had been getting these physicals done for a few years at the time and they were usually very quick and non invasive. You rarely ever saw the same the doctor twice you just saw who ever was available. On this particular day I was seen by a younger very enthusiastic male doctor. When the part of the physical came where I was usually checked for a hernia and then told I was done. I was told I was going to be given a complete genital exam. In the middle of the genital exam he informed me that next he was going to give me a rectal exam so he could collect a stool sample. He then went on to explain that I wasn't old enough to need to worry about my prostate but he would check it anyway and then collect the stool sample. He then told if everything was good he would sign my certification for my employer. I was rather shocked to say the least. I have never experienced anything like this since. I still don't know why he thought it necessary to do all of this for what was normally a very simple physical.

@joe_thom My first rectal exam was unexpected - I was a child, had appendicitis, and the doctor did not quite explain to me what she would be doing to me, only giving me instructions how to get into position. I was very surprised. I did not even know such a thing was possible.

@Jacana , how old were you at that time? What was the position?

I know sometimes doctors do rectal exam in a suspected appendicitis. For you as a child I must had been not just a surprise but a horrible experience left in your memory.

@kulemh The experience was not that bad except for the indignity of not being considered old enough to be told about what would happen (I think the doctor had told my mother using grownup words, but not me!). I was in elementary school, and the position was a bit like for pooping on a squat toilet.
