Assurance Briefs Made NY Times Top 4 Diaper List of 2025

I have tested my fair share of brick and mortar store diapers, anything from CVS, Walgreens, Assurance (Walmart), classic plastic back depends (when you could buy them in the store) and we all know they are not the best quality and hold little to none compared to premium diapers. I was researching best diapers of 2025 because i would like to find a cloth backed (hook and loop) diaper similar to these brick and mortar brands for traveling, driving, and day use that were cost effective, slim when unused for packing in my bags but still not going to leak in the first wetting. I stumbled across this NY Times story and it was actually pretty legit:

The story puts Assurance Briefs at #4 "Walmart’s Assurance Unisex Stretch Briefs with Tabs are the best of the worst." which i agree with. I have been using the Assurance Briefs with-in the last year or so and i agree with them, they are much better than CVS or Walgreen briefs which i did not have good experiences with. The Assurance briefs are not for all day or even all morning type of diaper but for mild wettings they work perfect for what they are, for the price you can afford to change them regularly, and they are space savers when compressed such as in my truck i can fit 2 of them with 2 chux pads folded up in a gallon freezer bag under my seat for emergencies. i have wore them on car trips and the leak guards work, did not leak when mildly wetting, and stay silent for those who are self aware(i'm not LOL). I still use a chux pad under me just to be safe but never had any issues. I did test them for an all morning test with 2 cups of coffee and by 1PM they did finally leak into my chux pad while sitting in my office chair. But keep in mind they were well beyond capacity and i wanted to see how much they would take before they leaked.

So all and all i agree with the story "if you need diapers last minute and can’t wait for shipping" then Assurance briefs seems like the best we are going to find for brick and mortar options.
