Differences between the UK and USA

Reading this forum I was really surprised at how often Americans seem to get medical examinations including intimate ones, from an early age compared to us in the UK.

I received two examinations at school growing up which I hated at the time. Since then I don't recall having any medicals other than ones specific to whatever issue I had at the time. Are Americans a bit more relaxed towards being poked and prodded?

I find it interesting that people outside the US didn't seem to go in for yearly checkups when they were younger. Idk if it was the US being more "tolerant" or anything, as I didn't have any choice when I was growing up lol. Maybe it's just the medical culture difference?
