When you were a child did the nurse or Doctor take your temperature mostly Orally or Rectally?

When you were young where did the nurse or Doctor take your temperature mostly Orally or Rectally or somewhere else ?

Always rectally.🌡️🧴 🧻

Rectally until age 10 then I was switched to oral temps

Never rectally but I craved it. Little did I know of the future other fun that I'd çrave.

I have no recollection of having my temperature taken by either a doctor or a nurse as a kid. When I became a teen, I started taking my own rectal temperature for fun. And when starting from my late teens and throughout adulthood, I took the rectal temperatures of other men.

100% rectally. Explains an awful lot of my med fetish!

I can only remember one time having a nurse take my temperature rectally. Usually it was taken under my arm.

The nurse took my temp rectally while I was on all fours on the table up until age 9 when I changed pediatricians and then it was taken orally.

Rectally until around 13 or 14 and then orally after that.

Rectally through my 4th grade checkup (I was 9 years and 4 months old). I got an oral temp two months later at a sick visit and oral temps continued after that.

Oof. That's such a difficult age to have that happen. When I was that age, I surely loved rectal thermometers already, but I am quite sure that in this context, I would've been less than thrilled.

How was that for you?

I remember when both were in clear glass vessels in alcohol (assuming) and labeled oral & rectal....and wondering which one they were going to grab

Not a problem or question at my doctors office no oral thermometers in the examination rooms the thermometer rack had only rectal if you were older and you wanted a oral temperature they actually had to go out of the exam room and go get one

And the winner by a landslide is......Rectally! Amazing how it was the norm. Not likely these days! I doubt the thermometer scan of the forehead will lead to any medfet recollection!

When I was young it was always done orally I wish they had done it rectaly. Even when I was in the hospital for a broken arm and potential internal bleeding after an accident I had it was orally. Then as I got into my teens it was done with one of those forehead ones. I wish I had gotten mine taken rectally I wonder why they didn't take it like that.

I am old enough that the glass/mercury thermometers were the only kind available well into adulthood. I have very bad sinus problems and could not breath through my nose while keeping my mouth shut long enough for an oral temperature check. It was always rectal. I was given the thermometer to insert myself as soon as I was old enough to follow instructions. It is a lot less embarrassing at the doctors office now that they several electronic versions of temperature checking.are available,

I honestly don't recall getting my temperature taken at the doctor's office. Not saying it wasn't done, just that I have no memory of it, so I'm guessing it was oral. I do recall being hospitalized at age 14 and, because I was in the pedes wing, having it taken rectally there. I was not at all happy about that.

I don't recall either. (But in those days in France it would likely have been rectal.)

My temperature was always taken at home, never at the doctor's office. I was once in hospital as a young child,there the nurses and doctors always took it rectally.

Oddly enough I mostly remember under the armpit temps, aside from once or twice orally.

My memories are that my RT was taken at home by my mother. No recollection of RTs during doctor office or house call visits. While briefly hospitalized, RTs were part of the admitting protocol and every four hours on the ward.

It was always orally.

Doctors or nurses never took my temperature.

When the doctor come at home, my mom had already taken my temperature before called him. Of course, she took it rectally.
