Is water-based conductive gel *optional* with rubber penis loops?

Am I to understand that a water-based gel is *optional* with rubber penis loops? I just got some in the mail, but haven't tried them out yet. Would like to tonight.

I watched a video on YouTube where a chap with a British accent was using a glass dildo to explain where to place and how to use them and he said you *may* want to use some gel to avoid a hot spot; implying it's optional.

Up until now I've only used pads (with no gel) and a butt plug (with gel). Does that mean gel is also merely optional with the butt probe? Should I try inserting that dry for a different experience? Or is that type of plug designed to only be used with gel since it's insertable?

With rubber/silicone electrodes you have to use a water-based gel like KY jelly, otherwise the electrodes do not conduct the electric current or very little. There is also the risk of having painful electric arcs, at least that's what I've found.

For the butt probe I advise you to use gel as well, for the introduction and to ensure good contact with the mucous membranes.
