Our older daughter in her mid-30s sometimes gives herself enemas with hint of J&J baby soap if she’s feeling constipated before her period. …. This practice was more common when I was her age, but I don’t hear about it these days.
When my siblings and I were teenagers, one of the reasons we swapped enemas was because our sister had issues with her period. Most months, she had issues with cramps and constipation, leading to our second reason. We all had problems with constipation, and swapping enemas with one another was more convenient than doing them solo. However, as young teenagers, this was a time when enemas were becoming more pleasurable for us, so it’s difficult to say what they were actually for, health or pleasure. Something that, I’m not even sure, we knew in all honesty.
When I was fourteen, my sister and girlfriend got in a conversation about enemas one afternoon, and told each other about swapping enemas with their siblings. My sister tell my girlfriend about swapping enemas with me or my brother during her period. And my girlfriend tell my sister about swapping enemas with her younger sister for the same reason. A month or so later, she asked me, if I would do likewise for her. Starting something that lasted until we finished High School.
Fast forward a number of years, once I was married. Like my sister and girlfriend, we gave each other enemas for both health and pleasure. Something that was commonplace in the seventies with young married couples our age.
From the forties thru the seventies, douching and enemas were commonplace for women every month. Take my wife for example: As a teenager, she used enemas every month during her period. But it wasn’t until the year before we were married, that she learned how pleasurable enemas could be during other times of the month. Something, once we were married, we took full advantage of, in more ways than either of us could've imagined.
