All three of my surgeries were genital related. I went into the operating room in a gown only. When interviewed by the anesthesiologist I asked to be but under as soon as possible to keep my anxiety down. An interventions drip was set up in the preoperative room. All I remember is helping them transfer me from the bed to the table, and asking me what procedure I was having done and who my surgin was.
My first procedure was a cystiscopey and a biopsy. Very short procedure. I do remember waking up in the recovery area. It was a large area with several patients. I was very groggy but in the same gown I went in with.
Soon taken to the waiting room with a catheter. And then released.
Both my second surgeries were long surgeries. Same start. Totally out within minutes of hitting the operating table. I have no recollection of any recovery room. I remember waking up in my room with a nurse there along with my wife and son. Again gown only and catheter. Was released next morning, way too soon in a lot of pain. We had over an hour ride home that was unbearable. Catheter stayed in for 5 weeks.
Third surgery same thing gown only, on the table and out. It was over an 8 hour surgery. Before surgery, I told my son and wife to go home when they were ready. No sense in waiting for me to wake up.
Again, I woke up in the room. I stayed 5 days, luckily as there were complications. During that time gown only. When I would walk out of the room, I had a second gown to pit on backwards. This time I came home with two drains to take care of for 4 weeks. What a pain in the but that was.
All this was in about a 6 week period. I was never hospitalized since I was 8 years old for a tonsillectomy. After all that any inhibitions or shyness are long gone. LOL!
