Alone with the doctor

It seems that anytime my wife goes for her exam, it's always just her and the male doctor in the room. I asked her once when she was seeing an older doctor about having someone in with her and she said that she could ask the secretary to sit in with her, but she never wanted too. Same goes for the doctor she's with now....only them in the room. I've asked to go with her, but she doesn't think it's necessary. i told her that she's supposed to have someone else for certain reasons. I guess i'll never get to see an actual exam.

I think you see it a bit wrong or maybe a misunderstanding, every Person, woman or not, has the right to have someone with her/him in the exam room but it is jut a right, not a must and it is also not a supposed thing. Maybe you should just be open to your wife and tell her that you would be interested to watch her exam? to me that sounds much better then being Tod "you are supposed to......."

As far as i know in Quebec you should have someone else with you...protects you and the doctor.

My doctor's nurse is always in the room. She takes notes and hands the doctor whatever she needs.

My ex tells me about all her exams and says she prefers it to just be him and her alone just because she doesn't need "multiple sets of eyes on me as as I'm spread open and my holes are violated"!

She had to go for an ultrasound on her ovaries last week and she thought it would just be routine since it was a follow up from an earlier one. She had to see another Dr in the new practice she goes to and when the nurse brought her into the room she told her to take everything off and put on the vest/gown and drape and she'd be back in a bit with the Dr for her TVU. She looked confused and nurse told her he'd want to give her a basic exam first since this was the first time he was seeing her. She wasn't too happy since all that was news to her. She was a nurse so she kinda understood but wasn't happy and she'd have another set to of eyes on her and she doesn't enjoy a TVU at all

I asked her how it played out and knowing she likes it to be her Dr and her only. She said being naked in front of a new Dr was making her anxious enough so she really didn't mind his nurse being there. The nurse did pull out the stirrups and get her to slide her " bottom" all the way to the edge and she handed him things like the speculum and lube'd up the ultrasound wand.

I asked if it went quick since it was not a complete exam she said "it was complete enough! He did'nt examine my boobs, but ran the stethoscope over and around them and a pelvic that was fairly complete. He had bigger hands than I'm used to but he was nice..... and gentle as possible." I said I asked if there was a rectal and she said " oh yeah, he let me know as he ripped off his gloves and his nurse handed him new ones. She lubed them up a lot so I appreciatd that .it was still a big finger going up my ass!" She said the next day she replayed it in her mind and got off on that part in particular not minding the nurse there after it was over

It depends, I’ve had exams where the nurse was present and one’s where there was just me and the doctor. It does give a level of protection for both the patient and the provider, but usually they are there in a professional and comfort position. There have been times I was glad to have someone there.

To answer the original post; whilst office's may have their own policy regarding chaperones there is not any legal requirement to have a chaperone. As a medical professional must have trust and a good relationship to risk performing intimate exams without a chaperone.

Whilst the chaperone protects patients and provides comfort they are also vital to protect the clinician from false claims of impropriety during the exam as much as to protect the patient.

According to the law, a relative or other person accompanying the patient may be present in the room during the examination. But, in fact, this happens infrequently. The doctors ask the accompanying person to go out into the corridor. Many patients also feel uncomfortable when they are being watched during an examination. A doctor I know once told me: “I never examine a woman in detail if her husband is sitting in the room. What if he doesn't like something and he jumps up and punches me in the face.” I also had a case. Somehow I got an incomprehensible rash all over my body. I came to the dermatologist for an appointment. It so happened that my husband accompanied me, as he wanted to use the opportunity to show the doctor the wound on his arm. The dermatologist decided not to examine me fully, apparently out of fear of my husband's reaction. He prescribed me an ointment without examining me, which did not help at all.

My wife has so far never had a nurse in the exam room after she was prepped for her exams. Always same male Ob/Gyn since age 16. First two exams after the nurse got her ready with her mother in the exam room with her the nurse left. When the doctor came in the very first time he introduced himself to both of them sat down with the file clip board and said he wanted to ask the patient some questions and ould the mother please wait in his office. She did. He asked her all about her sexual activity or lack thereof. Half a dozen very personal questions. Then he stood up went to the office door and had Mom return. He then did her fiirst very complete "big girl exam" Mom went to her second exam a little less than a year after. From then on always the same male doctor and no nurse or mom. Never me. I have to play golf with him 3 times a year. Boy I work hard to whip his ass too

I can only say that I would only want proffessional medics in the sugery with me if I was having an intimate examination !!
