Throat Examination-How?

How does the doctor look down your throat? When I was a child, he once looked into my mouth with a small spoon, which I found quite special, but after that only with a spatula or a small lamp and always while I was sitting down. Are there also people among you who have had the doctor look down their throat or into their mouth while lying down? I've seen this in a few videos....

Usually seated but I had a few doctors visits as a kid where they did with me lying down.

Always a tongue depressor. Never anything else. My wife had her throat checked once with a camera snaked in through the nose. Apparently something showed up on a preop CT Scan and they were concerned about intubating.

My doctor used a wooden tongue depressor and a "pen light" to check out my throat. As an adult I am not remembering any doctor checking my throat recently. The difference in medical check ups.

As part of a preop cat scan they thought something in the back of my wife’s throat might obstruct a breathing tube if needed. We were referred to an ENT who did the normal visual,then inserted a camera through her nose to inspect the area in the back of her throat where they suspected a problem might exist.
