Prostate exam at early age?

I was 28 or 29. I had just moved and it was my first visit with my new doctor, who was very thorough. He said that he was going to do a rectal exam because I was "almost 30," not because of any issue or history. He also did a rectal exam at my next few physicals, but then started saying that he was going to skip it. He has since retired, and I haven't had a doctor do a rectal exam since he retired.

I had a friend that had his prostate examined when he was 17 because he had prostatitis.

I was maybe 11...when I was young I had a bed wetting problems...my parents took me to a doctor who stuck his finger in my ass and messaged my prostate...although I was too young to know what he was doing.

I want to say I was somewhere around 40. Not sure if you consider that young or not. At the time, i had the impression that it was encouraged to have started earlier for me because I had the family history thing.

My first prostate exam was during a military medical examination at age 18. It wasn't a set rule; it depended on the doctor performing the examination. The woman who examined me was quite zealous. When she took off her gloves and threw them in the trash, I saw that it was half full. Many young men that day felt her slippery finger in their rectums. As I wrote above, I had never had a rectal exam before. Even though I was constipated, my pediatrician didn't examine my rectum.

Since turning 45, I have been going to a female urologist regularly for preventive check-ups. During the rectal prostate examination, I lie on my side on the examination table.

I was 17 and it was because I had a blood in my semen. Doctor also did prostate ultrasound at that exam (rectally).

I think my first prostate exam was at age 40 or 45 I cant recall exactly. I did have rectal exams due to hemorrhoids in my 30s but they did not check prostate at that time.

I was 19, I was having discharges, that were not from wet dreams. I would put on clean underwear in the morning. Then during the course of the day they would have discharged fluid on them. I wasn’t sexually excited. It wasn’t pre cum. After the exam and an ultrasound. It was determined that I had an overactive prostate gland. The doctor said I would have to deal with it for now, but as I matured and grew up, the function would slow down and my body would catch up. He was right by 23 the discharge’s stopped.

I think my first prostate exam was in my mid 30s. I did have many rectal exams prior to that but they were for other issues. Most of my childhood rectal exams were related to constipation problems. I had a proctoscope exam when I was around 8 years old. And around age 12 I had a rectal for possible appendicitis. Turned out to be gas.

Having been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate at 63 I wish I’d had one earlier especially as my older brother had, and has been treated for, prostate cancer. The UK is particularly poor at screening men not only for prostate cancer but for everything else.

I didn’t have a finger up my butt, I was secretly hoping I would, as my Doctor said that if there was something going on it might be in a part she couldn’t feel so I was referred for an MRI scan instead.

The original indicator of an issue was a raised PSA level in a blood test that I asked for after my brother was diagnosed.

It was 1978, when I went to dad's doctor for a grad school exam.

He was an older doc, I was 22, stripped to just my briefs when he indicated it was time.

All went well, and when I had coughed on both sides, he said ok, grab those knees!

He proceeded to tell me to take a deep breath, then I felt it.

I got one in my early 30s after getting referred to a urologist after finding blood in urine with a little abdominal pain and chills.

He wanted to check with a cystoscopy and told me he'd be doing a male exam, I wasn't sure if that was going to include a rectal and prostate. After checking the urethra and bladder with the cystoscope, he did check penis and testicles as expected, but then he helped me place my feet flat on the procedure table and told me to expect some pressure and inserted his finger to check the prostate. It was brief, maybe 3 or 4 seconds, but the sensation felt longer. The pressure on my prostate caused a little fluid to come out that the urologist sampled since it got expressed. Plenty of new sensations experienced that day.

My first DRE (digital rectal exam) was performed when I was 19. I was aimed to check for hemorrhoids first of all but the doctor said that prostate was normal.
