How common was it to see spanking/whupping marks on kids bottoms and legs when growing up! Back in the '60s and '70s, when I was growing up, it was very much the norm! The boys showers and changing rooms were, obviously, a rich source for spotting the tell-tale signs of a recent spanking! As were swimming pools, both private and public ones, and in the spring summer, during warm and hot weather, you would often catch sight of 'war wounds' on a playmates bottom and legs testifying to a recent punishment! Unlike today, when such a discovery would very likely result in the authorities being notified - and I am not going to get into a debate about the rights and wrongs of this; I am merely recounting HOW THINGS USE TO BE; in, depending on your opinion, the THE GOOD OR BAD OLD DAYS; LOL - adults in those days were incredibly relaxed and laid back about such things; whether they be other parents, teachers, baby sitters, or other members of the public in general! In fact the vast majority of them would have been strongly supportive of such discipline; as spanking was widely approved of back then! The usual reaction was laughter, teasing and conversation designed to embarrass the kid concerned! It would, in fact, often spark a conversation about the 'virtues of spanking' with the adults frequently describing spankings that they has recently administered to their own kids! Thus, if other children were present, they also were not spared the embarrassment either! The descriptions given were sometimes quite detailed! My sisters, female cousins and female friends in general assured me that it was common to see spanking marks on the bottoms of other girls in the school showers and dressing room! Hardly surprising since I often saw, heard and witnessed my own sisters and cousins get spanked! How frequently did other members spot spanking/whupping marks on the bottoms of other kids?

I don't recall seeing any marks in the 1960s and 1970s.

However, in 1979, in South Africa, I was visiting at a friend's house. The nine-year-old brother grabbed me and pulled me around the corner into the kitchen. There he turned around, pulled down his school-uniform pants, and bent over so his bum was on full display. He had three very clear and very long bruises across his cheeks from the caning her received for misbehaving in school.

From what I gathered, after the caning and the crying are over, then the marks on the butt cheeks are to worn as a badge of honor and you are to show off the marks to schoolmates and others, like me.

Once time, my wife and I got carried away with the Delrin cane, the most painful of my 31 spanking implements, and with her handiwork, she left a nasty bruise high on my right butt cheek. I was really turned on and I egged her on as I was approaching my orgasm and she kept laying on the heavy strokes with the Delrin cane.

A few days later, I was at the physical therapist who was helping with some pain in my low back following spine surgery. He had to tuck a towel into the waist of my pants so he wouldn't smear some gel on my lower back and didn't want to get any on my pants. To tuck in the towel he had to pull out on the stretchy waistband of my sport pants, and lower it to expose the lower right side of my back. When he pulled down the waistband, he saw the angry two-inch long, black-and-blue bruise.

"Oh, wow, man. You have a horrible bruise back here!!! It looks really bad. Are you okay?"

I hemmed and hawed and sort of said, "Oh, yeah, I know. Yeah, it's okay."

"Oh, but it looks really serious."

"Naw, it'll be okay."

I think he could tell I wasn't going to talk about it so he dropped it.

When I grew up canings were still happening at High School. It was done over the shorts, boys only and I only narrowly managed to avoid it.

Those that did would often have a "show and tell" in the boys bathrooms during break time. Sort of a badge of honour to show some caning marks on your bum.

Also know of one peer who realised his brother had been caned when he saw the marks as he was changing.
