Its really starting to bug me that the word fetish is being used for diapers/nappy wearers & AB/DLs, i believe the correct word is Paraphilic infantilism which means - Paraphilic infantilism is a paraphilia characterized by the desire to wear diapers and be treated as an infant[1] or toddler. One who engages in infantilistic play is known as an adult baby (AB). About one in three adult babies is also a diaper lover (DL),[2][3] so they are collectively known as AB/DLs.

Don't sweat it to much, because people like to generalize most things into a category anyway, wheather it's right or wrong, it laziness mostly.

But how does your 'proper' descriptive word apply to someone like myself how has no desire to be, act, dress etc. like a baby? I have no desire whatsoever to partake in these, I am not an AB in any way. your description is now to narrow as it only applies to AB. and yes it is a fetish in a general sense.... :-\

No, not exactly. "Fetish" means that your sexual interest has been transferred to the object, or "fetish", in question. And generally means "exclusive of other sexual attraction." It is a term from psychology that has precise meanings.

The term has been captured by colloquial language, where it is used in the way you describe. Just like how most non-geeks I know call the computer case that houses the motherboard, power supply and storage media the "hard drive", though clearly "hard drive" means only one specific type of data strorage media.

I'm with the original poster - the constant use of "fetish" to describe what is only one aspect of sexual behavior to many of us pisses me off. By no means do I have a diaper fetish, I happen to like wearing them and really like pictures of women and real woman wearing them. But I like a whole lot of other stuff too, and my interest is in the woman, not the diaper, which by definition means my interest is not a fetish.

But generally, I just ignore the bs and look at the pictures!

I think the word "fetish" means an object that a person gives sexual feelings to and can not have sex without. Examples are maybe leather or sucking toes i.e. a foot fetish. Now infantilism or diaper loving,depending on the degree could be a "fetish" on how you think of it. I am an adult baby and to feel like baby I wear diapers,they maybe cloth because that's what I wore as baby in the 40s,but deep down inside I've always felt like a baby. Even if I'm wasn't wearing diapers and plastic panties I still feel like a two year old. So for me the diapers and plastic pants are not a "fetish" but let me feel and express the way I really am.

I would be turned on by a woman in a diaper if she was attractive, I suppose the diaper would add some fun to the relationship but I would be just as attracted if she didn't wear a diaper. I imagine I could use diapers in that way with a woman but as for personal pleasure ie: buying and using diapers just to 'satisfy myself'... nope. having said all that, yes I do think a diaper can add to the sexiness of an attractive woman and I enjoy some of the 'diaper girl' photos just as the rest of the guys (and some girls) on this forum.

This may be a bit long, but I would like to know how you all feel about the term "Fetish" being used constantly to describe those of us who wear diapers.

Wearing diapers for me is NOT a Fetish, but my Lifestyle.

Here are a couple of definitions of Fetish:

1. An object or bodily part whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification and that is an object of fixation to the extent that it may interfere with complete sexual expression.

2. An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation.

Here are a couple of definitions of Lifestyle:

1. A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group.

2. The typical way of life of an individual, group, or culture.

Now I know that there are some people who do get sexual stimulation from wearing diapers, but with the millions of us that wear them I think "Fetish" is a degrading and misleading term to be used.

How are we supposed to live a normal lifestyle when people label us as weirdos or some sort of deviate. Sorry for the long post, but I really do want to know how you all feel.

I totally agree. I hate the word fetish as it pertains to me as with or without the diapers I still have my baby felling and needs.The cloth diapers and plastic pants just make feel more real. It's very hard to feel like a baby without the diapers and plastic panties.

I agree with you, as my wearing of diapers is a lifestyle choice but as it stands, a good majority of those (non-medical) who wear diapers, do so for sexual gratification more than anything else, and when this type of behavior makes up the majority of what people see and know about people wearing diapers its only natural that such behavior gets labeled as a fetish. I think for those who wear purely for sexual gratification should label it as a fetish and as such I don't see the problem in this word being used often on this forum, since I have come to realize that most of the people here wear or use diapers as a fetish.

I think with me it started out as a fetish but has now developed into a lifestyle. This may be true of other so called fetishes as well. 😃

Certainly there are those among us who maybe feel that the label of fetish is degrading or misleading, but as with most things in this multi-adventure world we live in, there seems to be a label for everything. As defined earlier, my DL started out purely fetish, but as I am in to this for about 45 years now it has become both comforting to wear and yes on occasion I enjoy the fetish side of my diapers. We just need to enjoy our diapers.

The only times that the phrase "fetish" makes me angry is when I've gone to several psychiatrists or psychcologists just so that I can feel more comfortable meeting women, and eventually the subject of diapers somehow always comes up, and then they use the word fetish in the sexual term. I try to convince them that yes although I do masturbate in my diapers, that it only to make myself feel more like a baby and try to imagine a woman changing my plastic pants and unpins my cloth diaper while talking baby talk to me, that I am NOT thinling about having sex or get erections just thinking about diapers or plastic pants

The problem is, a lot of people see the word "fetish" as a bit of a loaded term. But that's because the definition of the word gets twisted, and it often sprouts uneasy connotations. The literal definition of a fetish is anything used to gain sexual gratification. Diaper fetish, leather fetish, latex fetish, so on.

But just because someone wears diapers doesn't mean the person has a fetish. A diapered lifestyle would be the use of diapers without getting any kind of sexual gratification out of it.

I agree life is to short just live it to the fullest dont worry about tomarrow wear your dipers dress up as women.if it makes you feel good.

Well .. for me i would call it fetish. Since i can't wear diapers everyday. Only when need some sexual entertainment.

I don't have a fetish for diapers or nappies and plastic pants,I believe this is a definition of sexual arousal for certain items of clothing.I prefer to describe myself as a paraphilic infantalist because of my Desire to wear diapers plastic pants for comfort and security and to act babyish

If the diaper or wearing of diapers or other infantile items or behaviors causes sexual arousal, than it is a fetish. If the desire to wear diapers or act like a baby is non-sexual than it would not technically be a fetish. For some diaper enthusiasts or adult babies it is entirely non-sexual. For others it is a very sexual thing. Others still find it a combination. It is true that the term fetish does imply a sexual aspect that not all adult diaper wearers here (or in general) have. I agree that AB/DL is more accurate and inclusive than diaper fetish or diaper fetishist. While i think it is important to use these words as properly as we can, i also think it is less than constructive to get overly hung up on terminology and labels. Let's just put on a diaper (if that is what we like) and enjoy. 😃

Starting out simply as a bedwetter and being put back in diapers and then having an accident later in life that has put me in them 24/7...over all of that time I don't get a sexual charge from them. Other then needing them I do get great comfort emotionally from wearing them.

For me, the fetish part is definitely part of it. In addition to wearing diapers, I also love wet cloth diapers in the diaper pail. I love the way they smell, the way they're all wet and yellow, the way they feel when I hold them against me or rub them all over me. These days the only ones I have access to are mine, but when I was younger I never missed an opportunity to visit a friend or relative with a younger sibling in diapers, find the diaper pail, lift the lid and indulge myself.
