Golden Age Memories

I wonder who coined the term "Golden Age." The often-cited period of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s was also marked by economic hardship. Money wasn't exactly plentiful. Did people back then have to resort to enemas to feel better? As a child of the 50s, I certainly didn't see a golden age. My childhood was wonderful, but the enemas of that time were awful.

This is a complicated question. Well, no, the question isn't complicated; the answer is.

I don't believe there's any correlation with money and satisfaction from enemas.

Additionally, I think everybody has a different experience. The very fact that all of us are here says we have some sort of deep seated interestor at least curiosity, whether or not we are consciously aware of that is a complex question.

I don't know if you've read Danko's articles on Klismaphila but they're easy to pull up with a search engine.

There's tons of psychological and physiological information about enemas on FetLife. I don't think there's any reason to reinvent all of that but a lot of very smart people with research and psychology backgrounds have posted a great deal about why people of that era tended to like him is more than later times.

My own opinion (and just my opinion) is something I've said here before so I'll be brief. When a parent gave an enema, there was a power issue and a combination of things that felt incredibly good to some people, fear of the pain (I've written about this) and sexual awakening.

So, "golden age" may not be the best descriptor, but I believe the idea of whoever posted it was intended to convey a time when enemas were more open and nearly everyone I knew had them. My playmates and I would talk about enemas endlessly and I had girls at school in junior high that. would talk about them in great length. Mothers would trade notes on them.

People ignored the deep seated stimulation, which was clearly there and just focused on the physical treatment they provided.

I suppose that's enough but if you go searching and use Grok, you will find more information about this than you can possibly keep up with.

And in the end, I guess it doesn't really matter. You like them or you don't. This is not something you debate as to whether or not someone else has a similar experience to your own.

So, there's my two cents worth and I really don't have anything else to say because I've been talking about this for many years and kind of tired of it!

Thank you.

I don't know what the women in our family did when we had family get togethers. The men did watch football. My girl cousin and I would sneak off and give each other enemas while they had their get togethers, we had ours. Lots of fun.

The smell of the boiling chamomile tea. The weekly cleansing enema sessions what l got with my sister which turned our Saturday's afternoon to a home clinic scenario. Unforgettable moments.

I have a number of "Golden Age Memories."

I grew up in the 50s and 60s when enemas were ubiquitous. Seeing enema bags hanging to dry in a bathroom wasn't an uncommon sight. I saw them not only in our home, but also in the homes of friends and relatives. Seeing the bags was always strangely exciting. I couldn't help but wonder who had recently been given an enema.

My mother had on old-fashioned red-rubber enema bag with a long orange-red hose and several black bakelite nozzles. I liked looking at the bag. I also liked glimpsing the bag bulging with 2+ quarts of soapsuds solution and hanging from the shower curtain rod--as long as I wasn't the intended recipient!

Mother also had a small red-rubber bulb syringe. I don't remember her using it on me though she undoubtedly did, but I have vivid recollections of her giving my baby sister enemas with it. Once, when I was in kindergarten, I sneaked the bulb out of the house so that my classmate Sally and I could use it to play doctor. That never happened because her big brother was keeping too close an eye on us.

I have a lot more memories, but I'll save those for another day.

I've talked about the "good old days" or the "golden days", and to most of us that lived through the 40s, 50s and into the 60s, those were at times difficult financially, but wonderful at the same time. Yes we were subjected to enemas sometimes only for perceived illness, and at times when we had behavior issues, I personally got hosed after leaving a rather potent room clearing fart, it was assumed I needed a clean out. But when you look back at the memories, families were closer as we didn't have distractions like dozens of TV channels, we had 3 or 4 channels to pick from and parents picked what we were going to watch, we didn't have the internet, streaming content, teenagers automatically getting their first car as soon as it was legal, there was no rap music, we didn't dare protest in the streets, and you could buy a candy bar for a nickle! We played outside until "the street lights came on", we drank from garden hoses, we rode in the back of pickup trucks, and many of us walked to school without a parent watching us. We didn't always lock our doors during the day, our neighbors kept an eye on the neighborhood. All the neighbors knew just about all of the children and any mischief was reported to our parents and never went unpunished. So yes, the good old days or golden days were just that.......AND WE SURVIVED THEM!

We were not a family that used enemas. I'm pretty sure I must have gotten one enema as a very small child because I vaguely remember getting an enema and I knew what enemas were, and they fascinated me. Just the word got me excited.

I remember a visit to the doctor when I was 5 or 6 and as we walked down the hall he was tellng his nurse to give the woman in the room an enema. We went into the room next door and all I could think about was the woman in the next room getting an enema. I wanted to watch so badly and then get my own enema from the nurse.

I did eventually get an enema in the doctor's office from his nurse. I had a very bad cold and congestion with a cough. The doctor prescribed the nurse give me an enema. It was the best treatment I ever had in my life, except for the barium enema I had as an adult more than 20 years later.

When I was 8, I started getting up in the middle of the night and giving myself enemas. I used the large bulbous douche nozzle. I did it every night over the summer and when school started I did it either Friday night or Saturday night and sometimes both. I continued until I was 12.

A friend of mine in junior high school had his tonsils removed. He was taken to a children's hospital where the policy was to take rectal temperatures. Lucky him, he got a rectal thermometer stuck up his butt several times a day every time the nurse visited. In those days the policy was to have an enema before any surgery, no matter what it was, so he got an enema. Then after surgery, he got another enema. Just my luck, my tonsils were fine.

His parents were divorced and his mother worked until late so she got home close to six in the evening six days a week. We used to hang out together at his house. This was when he told me the tonsil story then he showed me a bulb syringe in the closet and said yuck. I played dumb and asked him what it was. When he said it was for giving enemas, I still played dumb and said I had no idea what he was talking about. I asked him to explain and when he finished, I said I wanted to try it. It took some convincing but I eventually got him to agree to give me an enema with the bulb. I took off my socks, shoes, pants and underwear and go on my hands and knees on the bathroom floor. He filled the sink with water and filled the bulb from the sink. He smeared a little Vaseline in the nozzle and asked me if I was sure I wanted to try it I said yes, I wanted to know what it felt like. So he inserted the nozzle and squeezed the bulb until it was empty. I showed him my erection and told him it felt great, why did he hate it? I got hiim to fill me a few more times before i had to evacuate while he waited outside in another room. I masturbated while expelling the water. Iwas never abke to cinvince him to do it again or to try it himself. We never spoke about it again mainly becuse we didn't want to think of ourselves as fags or for anyone else to find out.

I was 14 when that happened and I started taking secret enemas again using our old Rexall Defender Fountain Syringe and the big bulbous black douche nozzle. I was old enough now to finis the whole two quart bag although it was a real struggle to take it all. I took enemas at night and many times while taking showers. The shower was running water over my body while the enema nozzle was squirting it up my butt into my bowels. I ws the cleanest kid around taking a shower every day. Many times I was able to refill the bag and fill my seil with another half a bag making 3 quarts. Every once in a while I was able to finish two bags for 4 quarts total, but that was very rare. Unfortunately, my mother threw the ld bag away when I was 17 and that eneded the second hase of my enema hobby

I was not born until the early 60s but that doesn't mean that my sisters and I got to miss the golden age. Growing up our family did not have much money although we were comfortable living in a modest small three bedroom house. My father worked for the railroad and mom did some part-time customer service job for a local retailer. Still, if one of us was sick mom's first line of defense was her home nursing skills which relied on some over-the-counter meds such as aspirin, Pepto Bismal, some awful tasting cough medicine called terpin hydrate, and Vicks. She also believed that an enema was the number one remedy in her arsenal and my sisters and I were hardly strangers to some quantity of warm soapy water delivered by her red combination bag.

In retrospect, I think that mom believed in the natural healing capability of the human body and her role was to help it along. There were those infrequent instances where we saw a doctor and in those days it was usually by house call. There is something about mom's approach that I still think about, namely that it was an era when you didn't get overloaded with prescription meds. More often than not, if the doctor was coming to the house his nurse would instruct mom to give an enema.

I talked with Tess today and our conversation went around to the time when we lived on our grandparents farm in the 1950s. She told me what she was thinking while watching mom prepare an enema for her back when she was between 5 and 10 years old. She asked me what I was thinking while I watched my enemas being prepared. As I walked into the huge upstairs bathroom, mom closed the door, instructed me to remove pants, under wear, shoes and socks and lay hem on the clothes hamper. I watched as she ran water, got the open top bag out, adjusted he water temp, using a measuring cup from under the sink put the water in the bag, squirted a little in the sink, put Vaseline on the nozzle, and hung it on he hook next to the window. She sits on the window seat, towel on her lap, me instructed to lay on her lap, hose removed from the top of the bag, I'm watching everything in the mirror on the back of the door as the nozzle is heading for my butt, Insertion, then mom usually asked "are you ready"? And I'm thinking YES YES, turn it on, but I say "I guess so" followed by the click. So I'm thinking, looking forward to the enema but I play it cool, acting like OK, I'm going to accept my fate. Just about every time I got an enema from mom I played it cool while anxiously waiting for the water to start!

I haven't thought about those feelings in years, thanks to Tess, memories keep coming!
